Permalink Studio work piled to the ceiling. Time to clean it up.

You know what it's like to have paperwork and such pile up on you and you have to go in over the weekend and clear it off your desk. That's what I am facing in the studio this weekend. I have two Kahuna Kings songs ready for guitar and bass tracks that need cut and some remix and tweaks of existing songs that need MP3's sent out. It will be a busy weekend in the home studio! How about you?

I am with you my friend.
I added a few pieces of gear to my little home studio as needed as we were finishing our last record and haven't implemented them yet but direly need to so I/We can get back to it.
I have to hook up an extended mic pre/inputs, wire in a new vintage pre, make sure all of that is talking and working with the software and then work on some semi permanent mic boom installations for the drums. The idea is to be able to walk in the room and hit record when the band is here and we're almost there. Recording our last record here educated me on what else was needed and also what we could get away with without spending a ton of money.
I hate engineering and machines though so this has all been out off since May.

Cheers,
Jeff

Ditto here as well, sort of...

My home studio is located in what used to be the living room. In a couple weeks we're starting a major interior renovation on our 50 year old house which includes new flooring in the studio, so everything (including several guitars and basses on baker's racks and 10 guitar and bass amps) has to come out. Disassembling the studio gear and workstation will be quite a project but the end result will be worth it, plus I can do a much neater rewiring job when I reassemble everything.

Well, not as as busy, but I'm putting the finishing touches on some ambient/electronic music for a gallery show tomorrow. All done on the ol' computer.

That sounds cool and fun Rev.
I went to a pretty kick ass Kandinsky exhibit last weekend and I heard amazing music in my head the whole time. I may go back and "compose" while I'm there and bring the ideas home.

Cheers,

Jeff

I've been trying to come up with "smart" wiring run ideas to possibly put my whole rig in a rolling rack but have the least amount of disconnects if I want to move it all out of the room or possibly go mobile.

Oh I so hate the engineering part of it. I just want to cut my tracks and make the song. I hate, HATE, even just plugging in chords in and setting up mics!

I don't envy that project Jeff.

Been there and it will be worth it in the long run. I enjoy setting up fresh. Still a total pain in the ass though.

That sounds interesting! Can't be as good as the Rev hitting it hard with some of your blistering guitar work though!

Anything to make wiring and connections less of a pain is what I call, "smart".

I'm busy trying to finish up mixing 9 songs, for two Apollo Four vinyl EP releases. Hopefully they'll be done Monday so that they can be uploaded for mastering.

We sent out our first tune at the beginning of this month (to be on a 7" split single with another local band) with the hope of getting our records back in time for the holidays (it's a holiday song) and a Dec 20th record release party. We did the remainder of our EP recordings at the same time, but haven't had time to finish the mixing until now.

Right now I'm mixing in my 'music room' which is a complete disaster. There's crap everywhere! Future plans, are to get rid of my current desk and replace it with dedicated studio furniture. I'd like to have all the recording gear permanently set up so I can just run mic cables downstairs to do living room recordings of the band. We record everything live to 8 tracks. It's pretty straightforward to set up all the mics, but moving around all of the preamps and patching cables every time we record is a huge pain.

Having gear set up permanently would be a huge luxury. It'd make the recording process much more relaxing and enjoyable.
