My build is going ok, just waiting on a couple of incoming parts now.

Just need a little clarity regarding the LED if someone wouldn't mind helping a lost soul. It looks like the + 12v connection from the optional area runs through a resister (R29 1/4W) then to the + leg of the LED and looped back to other optional connection. The value of the LED doesn't seem to matter because it isn't provided in the instructions. Is this correct?

Second question. I already have a Fender type jewel light assembly and I have looked up the type of bulb that fits, I'm fairly sure it is Ba9s standard bayonet single contact. These bulbs come many different voltages including 12v LED for car dashboard/interior. Could I use this bulb type @ 12v without resister?
Thanks.

No resistor needed. The diode is the component in the schematic. There are 12v LEDs with jewel mounts at electronics stores for $6.

Yes and yes.
Most LEDs will work great. If you want to adjust the brightness, just change the resistor.
A 12V bulb should be connected without a series resistor. You can connect it across the 12V DC-IN terminals, if you like.

Thanks all. I can see my mistake now I've looked at the back at the schematic again.

the more i play with mine the more is easy too catch some things by ears
my deluxe + fet reverb = pur beautifull sound it react really well together

The mail guy finally arrived yesterday and so swiftly I became productive.
A couple of heart stopping moments during initial bootup, a couple of minor wiring corrections and then.. a gorgeously lush Fender spring reverb sound! I’m grinning like a cheshire cat.

I might have volume drop and hum issue but for the moment I'm just happy it works and I'll further investigate my setup later. For sure working next to a computer modem doesn't help matters.

The Ba9s 12v LED Bulb worked a treat - luminosity is just right.
Huge thumbs up Bjorn!

Cheers

Hi Malc

That looks very neat Smile

I am sure you will solve the hum issue after some investigation.
One thing is to disconnect the RCA-cables, do the hum disappear?
The power supply or grounding/shielding might also be worth experimenting with.
I glued aluminium foil on the back panel, that reduced the hum.

play more ! less hum Big Grin
mine is very silentious ,my deluxe and my ac4 made more noise than the fet reverb ,i haven't find more noise with it plug
then how it sound ? cause the box is really sweet

Malc, nice job, congrats! I will steal your 12v LED idea.

Just ordered the board and parts from Bjorn. I've ditched the lame mailbox enclosure idea after finding an old chassis from a fried Kustom Tube 12 and just enough Seafoam Green tolex/brown grill cloth to cover a box.

Looks like it'll have some holes leftover for ventilation Big Grin

It looks as though FET Reverb doesn't like one of my multi-socket mains adapters because the hum is much less when plugged into a wall socket. I use a Yamaha THR10 amp which needs to be near my computer because of USB connection and tends to pickup on computer at higher volume. When I initially plugged my guitar in it seemed too quiet so I upped the master volume and the hum appeared. I'm pretty sure it'll be ok once I get the unit off the bench away from the computer. Sort of wish I hadn't mentioned it now! But I appreciate your interest and advice.

Update! because I mounted the pan sideways the straight RCA plugs were fouling the mounting springs (quite severely). Unable to find short cables with L shaped plugs I ordered some 90 degree angle RCA adapters. Fitted them this morning and now the hum is hardly audible.

I'm thinking of making a pedal with the PCB and carry the springs separately. I have never built a pedal though I can solder.

My question is how will I be able to stabilize the PCB inside the enclosure so it doesn't bounce around. Any clues?

The board has holes at the corners. You can drill the enclosure and mount long thin screws to line up with the holes on the board. turn four nuts down on the screws to give the board a stop point in the enclosure then four more nuts to tighten it down. If I'm not mistaken I used 8/32's about 1 3/4 inches long.

I used computer motherboard stand-offs. You can buy small bags of stand-offs and screws cheaply although you'll probably have to source the nuts/washers separately. Mine were metric size M3.

Finally, here is the sticker I have promised.
I tried several designs, this is the one like best:

Many thanks to DreadInBabylon, you are a talent!!

Bjorn & Dread – that design ROCKS! Send a ream of them to SoCal for wide distribution ASAP!

Hi Bjorn
send me the pdf or inskape file ,please
i don't like very much the blue and yellow but i will use the letering

The reverb is so close... so I decided to put in a 3PDT and an LED into the design. I probably would have been fine if I didn't have to be fancy, but I'm afraid that is almost never an option. By my amateur estimation, it looks like it should be wired correctly, but alas it's not producing any reverb... LED goes on and off as expected, switching between on/bypass are working. I can even tell the dials are trying to do something when engaged (it's just sort of mudding up the normal tone though), and I can even rattle the pan and get a crash, also while engaged. I was hoping that if I posted my schematic, someone could just say "well there's your problem right there", so fingers crossed...

Hi Morphball

To me the schematic looks correct.
Since you are getting the guitar signal thru the clean path, most of the circuit seems ok.
(it is normal that the tone-control sucks tone from the dry path, a 6G15-feature Smile
But no signal seems to reach the reverb pan.

I would concentrate on double checking the wires for DWELL and the 'REV Out'-RCA-cable to the reverb pan.

One way to check if you are getting any signal sent to the reverb pan is to:
-First set DWELL to 0.
-Connect the 'Rev OUT' to a small speaker or to the input of your guitar amp.
-Slowly increase DWELL, the gain can be huge.
