yes. Crazy good. There are so many wonderful versions, but this is really good. I think there are probably so many good ones, and I've just heard this one for the first time tonight. Favorite before this was probably the Chantays Jeremy Last edited: Sep 26, 2014 20:26:11 |

I wonder what year that was? Conventional wisdom was that the UK was pretty much unaware of the US surf craze in the 60's. Obviously this is not completely true... —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

It wouldn't have been a widespread thing, but as we had bands trying to emulate American rock 'n' roll since the late 50s it's only natural that there would be some crossover. But to answer the original question, it's probably The Lively Ones' version. |

That's awesome Jeff. That actually does capture some of the atmospherics of the original. What a talented guy. And yes Surfaholic, that is a great version as well. Here are some interesting versions. The thing that prompted me to start this thread is that this song really seems to have transcended the surf genre in popularity and popular acceptance. Seemingly becoming some sort of standard for the american/world soundtrack. Enjoy these songs and please put more of these up if you know some good ones. I like the last one in particular, he should have called it "Bagpipeline". —Jeremy |

Not sure if this is legitimate or not, but when you think about it the Doors would be uniquely positioned to cover this song with keyboard parts and all. —Jeremy |

No Love for Hank Marvin & Duane Eddy's early 80's vibe that was apparently released in the early 90's?

The UK Eagles started in 1958. Their version of Pipeline was found on their LP "Smash Hits". This was release in august 1963. I found these infos as liner notes on a 2CD called "Smash Hits by…" which contains one 30 song CD by The Eagles and one 30 song CD by The Kestrels. —Twang cheers! In the UK we were well aware of The Chantays' "Pipeline" as it hit in April 1963, spending 14 weeks in the charts and reaching #16. The Surfaris hit with "Wipe Out" in July '63, also spending 14 weeks in the charts and reaching #5. |
