Thread of the deeaaaad.
There are no subs on this "dvd" quality is shoddy at best. But if you just want to see the film. I see no other option.
edit: Amazon seems to sell it... in region 2. No luck for the US.

I have a copy. Had it in loop play at a house party we had this year.
It was a hit, people were mesmerized!

Unavailability of this important artifact to sincere fans calls for some p2p sharing...

I watched this last night with my friend and ally Jim. We are, I think, the first two people to have had the privilege to watch this film with English subtitles.

Where can I watch this with Subs? I bought the surf beat dvd some years ago, I dont remember it having subs In fact I had to design my own slipcase covers for the DVD. check em' out.

Nope NO SUBS. I put the disk in its not good. Still guessing as to what the plot of this film is. No useful Menu or chapter selection. The aspect ratio of the Video is stretched way out and the quality is bad. You can see lines in the video. Bootleg quality at best.
here are some screen shots in VLC player

If anyone has a better option to this "release" I would love to see it.

That's weird. I bought the Beloved Invaders from that outfit and it had a preview for that movie on it and the aspect ratio was fine there.

Yes it is weird and quite irritating, especially since the disk is 20 bucks plus shipping!
I put the DVD in my blu ray player and the image is stretched there as well, though not as dramatic. Does anyone else have experience with this release? How is the Aspect on your DVD?

Try it using a different software player. Also try it in a DVD player.

I just did that. And yes it is still stretched. Just not as dramatic, but noticeable.

I have had a bootleg copy without subtitles for years. It was always my dream to watch it with subtitles. I finally was able to find a native Japanese speaker willing to translate the movie. From there, I bought an official (region 2) copy and I added the subtitles myself with the help of my friend Jim. Together, we are now working on making a dubbed version of the film.

Congrats on the legwork That sounds like a ton of work. Are you doing this professionally, or for open distribution? Is there anyway i can get ahold of that sub, bud? Or, a txt file you could PM me? If not, I understand. Either way, good luck with the endeavor.

I will be making it available to folks like you in late February/early March. My band is going to do an LP of Yuzo Kayama covers, and we were thinking about giving away copies of the subbed and dubbed DVDs with it.

Wow, if I hadn't set up email notifications for this topic years ago, I would never have seen this new comment, haha.
So, yeah, I corresponded with Aaron (I believe, it was several years ago) for a while, who told me he was actually working on a dub of the movie and hoping to arrange screenings. I checked in from time to time and eventually he stopped returning my messages. Not sure what happened to the project, but I'd still absolutely love to see a subtitled version of this as well as the dub.

Ok, here’s the deal.
the subtitles have been done forever. The dub is done. I’m not exactly sure how to distribute this thing, but I do have a set of compilation LPs coming out in February. One is an eleki comp, the other is a group sounds comp. Maybe I could make some DVD copies and give them away with the LPs.
