It's pretty far from trad surf but I always enjoy playing with conventions of instro/surf to keep things fresh.

I picked up the two Trabants CDs at the SG101 convention, and I am extremely happy to have found this band. I totally dig both the albums. "Highwire Surfing" is a blast of party rock, definitely not restricted to surf, lots of keys, horns, garagey guitar tones and great variety in songwriting styles. "Cinematic" is moodier, but again, the songs are so well written and the instrumentation full (love the horn arrangements). Overall, the sounds on both CDs are pleasingly vintage in tone and recording.
I know nothing else about the band, but I hope to see them live some day, and hope they release more records!

We just had the Trabants play a HB pier show.
Last min fill in.
Eric the leader of the band is a supporter
Of the so cal surf show scene.
They had a fill in drummer, but pulled off
A scorching hot 35 min set. Drummer did a great job.
I wouldn't have known he was fill in if I wasn't told.
Eric is part time west coast, part time east coast,
And he has a band on each coast to play with.
I hear he's going to be doing one of Freddie's
Otto's shrunken head shows coming up soon.
Oh yeah, like Ferenc said. Great cds,
Highly recommended.
