thanks. nice to hear 'the kilaueas' come up on a local radio station in the middle of nowhere, as i did yesterday. i've put about 400 surf tunes in the library which contains about 30,000 entries.

Eternal Tapestry - Beyond the 4th Door.

Dark & droney stoner rock. Gets me through this hot work day.

Boss Fink to wake me up before heading off to work.

Listening to a lot of Calexico lately, especially their old stuff.

If you want some bad ass spaghetti, watch/listen to the video. I LOVE this song.

Oooooohhhhh yesssss!!!!
"Glowing heart of the world"!! WHAT a song!!! Goosebumps when I listen to it loud. The dynamic in this arrangement is sooooo good!
I got their CD Road Map, bought at a gig at their tour 98-99. This was a time they were not so well known. One of my best concerts ever I remember! The drummer John Convertino is one of my favorite drummers since this gig! What a feeling in playing!
Good band!!! Even their "Black Lights" album is also one of my all time faves!

Twang cheers!

Oh yeah. Thats so cool to know another Calexico fan here on these boards, Ralf! Black Light is such an amazing album from start to finish. It is, in my opinion, one of the best albums ever made.

I did get to see them do Glowing Heart live a couple times (they used to open with it a lot back in the day). I remember they opened with that song at the El Rey in hollywood once, and it was quite literally one of the best live musical moments in my life. I love that song so much!

I discovered them kind of on accident in 1998 and I immediately knew this band was special. I've seen them live about 15 times and have all of their albums, including their first 7inch release with The Ride part 1 on it. Their tour albums are also extremely awesome. But the last couple of albums sort of lost me, they went a little more mainstream in their sound. But their old stuff is perfect.

I'm listening to their first album Spoke right now. So excellent...

Another Calexico fan here! Actually a few days ago I thought: "I haven't listened to Black Light in a long time. I should put it on this evening." But then I forgot, so thanks for the unintentional reminder!

Trivia-questsion: Which surfband did Convertino play in? Wink

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

He was an Insect Surfer for a while! How cool is that!?!?!

Last month, Calexico and The Sonics played in Spain. John Convertino and Dusty Watson playing on the same stage! My two favorite drummers!

damn, beat me to the punch.
fairly big Calexico fan here. I have about 10 cds, how many do they have total now? just regular, not special tour releases.

Jim Thomas delivers an academic, erudite, and very didactic lecture on the nature of "surf music" recorded at the Exploratorium in San Francisco,ca on 19/25/97...

Picked it up at a Mermen show some time ago. Pretty interesting stuff.

Another big Calexico fan here. John Convertino is really one of the best drummers in the world. But all Giant Sand spin offs are truly great: Band of Blacky Ranchette's 'Still lookin good to me' is excellent album that has almost the same quality as Calexcio. But my favorite Giant Sand / Calexico related band has to be Friends of Dean Martinez. The perfect soundtrack for long summer evening drives in the deserts... It takes me right back to my favorite USA trips Sigh

Calexico fan here too... I realize I've missed a few of their releases. Now where's my credit card?

Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers.

A radio show (as podcast) from Spain mainly about The Phantom Four including interviews and 2 tunes played live.

I've been listening to a lot of great new music lately. So I decided to get nostalgic with some recent purchases. Three are from a nearby used record store, and I got one at the last Ventures Fan Fest. Yes, that's Annette sitting on a stool and holding Duane Eddy's Gretsch.
