Hi guys and girls(gals),a short video to help people understand the difference in sound between an "in phase" and "out of phase" pickup sound.
I fitted a Les Trem II vibrato to the guitar as well.Hope it's useful!!
cheers

Having two pickups in reversed phase works best if the volume of one of the pickups can be adjusted. To accomplish this I installed a pickup between the bridge and middle, with phase opposite to the other pickups in the guitar. Then I rewired the middle pot to be a volume control for just this pickup. The other two pots are overall volume and overall tone.
That totals four pickups. For a fifth pickup I put a compact humbucker between the middle and the neck. In one guitar I used a "Duncan cooler rails" and in the other a generic rails from Korea. The Duncan is a little cooler but it is several fold more costly.
All 5 pickups on each guitar are from different makers and have different timbres. The pickups between the two guitars match closely, however.
For pickup selection each guitar uses two 5-position switches. The second 5-position switch lets me select either of these two added pickups or pair them with output from pickups in the traditional three positions (controlled by the first 5-position switch).
The dark red guitar actually has six pickups, counting the 6-coil Roland pickup.

Wow so my Jazzmaster with 62 AVRI pickups sounds just like your SG when in it was out of phase. I almost thought my roommate was playing my guitar before I realized the video had loaded. Now it is time to correct that problem! Thanks for the demo

@ TheCruelSea... I'm glad my video helped you out. Thanks for the compliments.
@ Squid...very impressed,if I proposed something similar to my luthier he'd take his elephant gun out and shoot my b_lls all the way back to Australia!
Though I have dabbled in the series /parallel field myself

I find the drop in volume when selecting only the neck or bridge pu from a series combination to be awkward in a live situation.I'm discussing with my luth if a humbucker in the bridge posi with a coil split for the series bridge /middle position could work.
cheers all

On another strat (not shown in the photo) I installed a compact humbucker at the neck position, with a switch for coil splitting. The compact humbucker volume is subjectively about the same as the single coil volume, probably because the single coil has more mids and treble. On other guitars standard size humbuckers are noticeably louder than split coils. So, you might be interested to know the identity of the compact humbucker that worked for me: It is a Mighty Mite rails pickup.
I did not try it in the bridge position, however, and I can imagine that the humbucker mode may well be louder than the split coil there.
