Clint, thanks for including Surfing in Chad and Coffee Stained shirt recorded at KFJC in 2002 in this very good selection of songs. Surfing in Chad was written by our friend and former VC bass player "Uncle Mark" Chait who passed away due to a respiratory illness in June. |

Surf Hour ……………….……………….…. Tony Valentino (of The Standells) At this point of the show, everything was going just fine. I have a stack of new CDs from both the SG 101 con and Tiki Oasis. As Tony’s song was playing, a spider slowly descends from the ceiling, right in front of my face. So I calmly grab the web and gingerly walk to the studio door and the awaiting trashcan just outside. As I lower the 8-legged creature into its new home, the studio door somehow decides to close and lock behind me. I have no idea how this happened. Inside the now locked KCR studio is Tony’s song playing on my phone, all my CDs, my laptop and all needed info to contact anyone connected with the station. Keep in mind that school is not yet in session. After a bit of a search, I found a phone and called security. They said they had a couple important matters ahead of me but would be there as soon as they could. I waited outside the studio… hearing the phone ring and seeing messages light up on my phone through the studio window as Tony’s song ends, leaving dead-air in its wake. After 30 minutes, I made another phone call. They said they dispatched someone but he couldn’t find me, so he left. I reassured the operator I’ve been patiently waiting in front of the studio the whole time. After another 30 minutes, a guy showed up and let me in. By now the automated programming had resumed and I was too disgusted (at both myself and campus security) to finish the show. This was the first time in almost 12 years of doing weekly shows that something like this has ever happened.
