Yup...a G.A.S. attack, but when they're down to $300.00 (or 3 x $99.99 payments through AMS), I figured "why not!?" It's not like I wasn't planning to, eventually, buy one...it just happened that "eventually" ended up being yesterday, when I placed my order. Although a bit OT from what's normally discussed here, I figure when it arrives, I get it unpacked and make sure it's in tune, I'll christen it with a bit of Cream (that I know)..."White Room," "Sunshine Of Your Love," "Tales Of Brave Ulysses." Of course I'll see how some surf tunes (that I know) sound, with the "sloggin' through the mud" sound that makes the EB3 Bass what it is.

PS: At least mine ain't gonna have that *&%$@# thumb rest, like on that used one I tried, several months ago!

Some of those songs might be a Bass VI though.

Isn't the EB3 a short scale bass?

friend of mine had an EB2. piece of crap, sounded like shit, played terrible, fragile.
another friend had a ripper:

hands down the best playing, best sounding bass I ever heard. not for surf but for pop music though. no matter what kind of sound you dialed in, ultra low or snappy mid, it alwys cut through the mix great.
keep us posted about how you like the EB3!

The Gibson Basses have a certain mid-range "growl" that the Fender Basses lack...the Music Man Basses, however, also posess "the growl"...

Jazz basses have growl, you just gotta play by the bridge pickup.

The Gibson EB3, and the Epiphone Elitist EB3 are, but what I'm getting is long scale. I don't really think the 34" scale detracts from the overall tone, too much, versus the ones with the 30" scale. I fell in love with the "mud" of the EB3, about 10 or so years ago, when I nearly scored a used Gibson EB3, via lay-away, at a local music store.
Unfortunately, something came up that steered my money away from continuing the lay-away, but I've come to figure it was just as well. The headstock was classical guitar style, and I've heard those are a PITA to keep in tune...more so than what many of us are used to.

Yeah, I don't care too much for short scale basses either. They sound real muddy. But if it is a long scale, then all the power to you!
