Permalink DIY Surf Guitar animation movie!

New Topic

Hey Guys,

Maybe some of you already saw this movie last weekend in Livorno at the Surfer Joe Festival.

A few months ago I made an animation movie about a DIY 'Surf Guitar' project that I did 2 years ago. The movie gives a quick overview of how the guitar was made in 15 steps.

It took me quite some time to build the guitar and it was a learning and rewarding experience to do. It gave me a much better understanding of how a guitar works and in the end it was well worth all the work, I couldn't be more satisfied with the end result. I hope it may inspire others to start their own DIY projects.

So have a look and get started on your own DIY!

Btw, for the soundtrack I used the actual DIY SG.

Cool movie. If I might ask, what sort of program created this? We are looking to hire a video artist at work for a small project, and I think skills with this toolset might be just what we are looking for.

Great movie Christoph! Although the tempo is a bit high to read all the texts, I'm a slow reader Confused
And you crafted a superb looking guitar!

I too like to know what the program is you used to create it!

Very cool indeed, and if I had to guess I would say that it could have been done in Adobe After Effects.

Thanks guys, I had my fun making both the guitar and movie.

@ Johnny_Z, it was idd done with Adobe After Effects.

@ Badger, that's a good question, I just put some guitars on the scale to check.

  • DIY Jag: 4,176 kg ~ 9,19 lbs
  • AVRI Jag: 4,269 kg ~ 9,41 lbs (the DIY Jag was made on this guitar exact measurements)
  • CIJ Jag: 3,970 kg ~ 8,75 lbs (AVRI hardware incl. string muter)

Intersting to see that the CIJ is the lightes, despite it has a much thicker finish.
After only 1,5 year, the DIY already has a lot of vintage guitar finish cracking , I guess that's because I sprayed very very thin.

@ Arny, I can imaging it goes quit fast to read all text. I know, but I didn't want to drop the tempo from te movie too much so the attention level keeps high ;)

@ LHR, I send you pm

Interesting, thanks for taking the measurements.
