Permalink Messer Chups live in Berlin!

Yeaaah!
Had a very nice evening yesterday. First met with a strange italian guy here.
Then I moved to meet the Messer Chups. They played at the Bassy Cowboy Club which is one of the nicest live clubs here in town. When I arrived the club was full packed and it was hard to get inside.
A loooooooot of people there! The set of the Messer Chups was very good. A lot of own songs mixed with some cool covers which work good with the wilder and wilder going audience. The cover songs are played and arranged damned good by Oleg. Always with an own flavor by Oleg, so even the most cover songs sound like Messer Chups originals.
Oleg is a really surf guitar player which means, he knows how to get the sound out off his fantastic sounding Jazzmaster. He varies the reverb on his tank sometimes. So on some songs which are played really hard and fast you can hear every played string and pick by Oleg. What can I say? Oleg is going better and better on guitar! He simply goes with a 3 meter cable into his 1965 reverb tank and also with a short cable into a Fender amp. That`s it! This evening he played the Twin Reverb from the club.
Wonderful cool Zombierella on Fender Mustang bass is also good as a bass player should be in a surf band. She plays downstrokes the most time! And she is playing them very fast. But it looks just cool and she is not stressed! I am always impressed how to play bass with this nice fingernails! (Boys this is a special kind of art!)
Boris on drums is always fun for the audience. Boris also knows about Surf like not many other drummers. He is soooo fast sometimes! One of the best surf drummers nowadays!

I did a few videos.

Thanks for the report !!
Messer Chups are really a great band.
Would like to see them some day Smile

I am glad to hear that was a great concert!!! I slept on the way back home, I could have not stayed. Yes Oleg looks in good shape as usual!

They will play the 8th of june in my town ! can't wait to see them.

That was really cool Ralf! Nice to see a crowd into it.

I see the club mentions "before 1969" in their motto. Were they a pretty going outfit back in the day? Clubbing on that side of the wire was not exactly something I could do at that time; lots of guys with live ammo & bad attitudes.

The vids are cool, though - that drummer is kickass too!
Cool

I just discovered them, listening to the North Sea Surf Radio feed. "Hula Tikula"(?) pops up often in the feed and that's such a great song. Been watching a lot of their stuff on YouTube. Very good!

So many good modern bands out there I'm slowly beginning to know. Very inspiring. The deeper I get into this music, the more I love it. Acts like this play a big part in that.

One more.
Here is their version of "Ghost Hop" from The Surfmen.
This is very clever played by Oleg. He added a few chords with his typical Oleg style. Coool!!!

AAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!
"Back to the bermuda triangle"
WHAT a perect surf song is this???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQPPct8hP0M

The little "out of limits" theme is wonderful integrated in this real masterpiece of surf music.
Unfortunately I have no live video to this song. But I remember this song when they played it live at a gig last year. I was totally blown away especially by THIS song! Live it had 200% more surf power. This power is not capable in a youtube video unfortunately.
OOOooooooooohhhhh!!! I love surf music!!!
Are there others who had same thoughts especially about this song?

…little bit out off topic I know…

Twang cheers!

Thanks again Ralf.

Back to the Bermuda Triangle appeared on both Bermuda 66 (2010)and Surf Riders from The Swamp Lagoon (2011) the later sounding slightly muddy. Due to their habit of re-issuing, re-doing, re-mixing, re-mastering there could be another two versions of the song out there. In my opinion the first take of a new Messer Chups track usually sounds best and I'd say it's the case with the Bermuda 66 version, either way it's a great tune.

'Bermuda 66' is my favorite Messer Chups album.

The style, the sound, its just awesome !!!
