Having played rhythm guitar in various Rock n Roll and cover bands for many years I now find myself in a surf band, here in Bavaria. (Are we the only one??)
I have little time and much to do so I am hoping the good fellows here can help a little. I need the chords for some songs. I have of course looked on the internet but as so often there are tabs but no chords. I am stuck with 4 songs out of about 25.
Reef Break (or is it Reef Rider) - Atlantics
The Wedge - Dick Dale
K39 - Challengers
Flight of the Mosquitos - Atomic Mosquitos
If any other kind rhythm player can help me out here I will be forever in your debt!

The chords I would use for Reef Break are basic Am-F-G-E- finish back to Am.
For the break launch into Dm-Am-G-E-Am then Dm-Am- E/F/E -Am
If your lead is playing that one at anything close to tempo that will keep you busy enough. Hope it helps.

OK just to clear up The Atlantics song name for "Reef Break".
The correct title is "Reef Break" but somehow it was wrongly entered somewhere? as "Reef Ride". So if you see "Reef Ride" credited to The Atlantics then it is actually "Reef Break"

Here is a quick guide to the chords for "Reef Break"
Intro - Am
Verse - Am, Dm, G, E7, Am, Am, Dm, G, E7, Am
Next bit - Dm, Am, G, E7, Am, A7, Dm, Am, E, F, E, Am.

Thanks Martin for fixing the detail on my feeble stab at the chords.
That is odd about the title & you're right. Amazon's track listing for that album here has it as Reef Ride. I recall now purchasing that track individually as I thought I'd missed something, lol. Same song.

Here ya go for The Wedge: start off in Am, then Am - G - F - E - F - E, and repeat this chord progression as the lead plays the melody a second time.
The other part is just a constant change between E and Am.

It is Reef Break with the chords kindly supplied by Martin. Thanks Martin, you saved me much time! First attempt at this on Friday next along with around 9 other new songs.
Our situation is just a little weird. Bubenreuth (where we are based) was the home of the German guitar and stringed instruments and the town has a kind of museum dedicated to the history of all that. (Think Höfner, Klira, Hopf, Framus, Hoyer etc.) So this local museum asked us to form a group to play vintage German guitars, so we have, but a surf band. I have to say though my regular piece is an Epiphone Coronet, those old Höfners are hard work!

But Nick, it is because that is what he is giving as his profession! Can't possible be because at night he plays rhythm in a surf band that literally dozens of people watch each week or that instead of spending his Sunday and Thursday evenings with his girlfriend he spends them at band practice.

Dont say you play surf,
say its an instro rock band.
not 100% better, but maybe you can fool them into thinking its more like prog rock, than retro rock.

On "the second part" of The Wedge. Try E7 to Am. To my old tired ears this sounds better. There are several versions of The Wedge, so it may depend on which you prefer.

Actually I now more girls that like surf music than ones that like prog...

Some of these old guitars actually got used by some German surf/instro bands in the 90s, especially by the Fenton Weills. If you can, try to get a Framus Sorento 6 with Billy Lorento (aka Bill Lawrence) PUs.
They almost soundlike a Jazzmaster, and have for example been used by Ralf Kilauea during his time with Los Apollos (I had a chance to buy the guitar when I joined the band, but I couln't get used to it. But I somehow regret not buying it now...)
