Permalink Squad Car - Do I have this right

I've been working on learning Squad Car. I thought I had it nailed, but I've been looking at some videos on YouTube of other guys playing it. It looks like they are playing the chord part of the melody differently than I (am).

This is what I'm doing:

-5-5-5-5-7-8-8-7---5-5-5-5-7-8-8-7---4-4-4-4-5-7-7-4  
-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6---5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5---5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5

What is the correct way?

On most versions I've seen live, the guitarist(s) just plays the B and e strings, but I think the part over the E chord is:

e:-4-4-4-5-7-5-4-  
B:-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-  
G:(4-4-4-4-4-4-4)

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I play the e string like this

Dm               Am               E  
5-5-5-7-8-5-5-x-|5-5-5-7-8-5-5-x-|4-4-4-5-7-4-4-x-|

different rhythm, the highest note seems to fall on the accented 3th beat, not on an afterbeat, and I thing it goes back to the 5th fret straight away.

Ooops! My tabs had the "E" part a fret too high. I just editted it.
