Permalink Fs in the UK: Squier Pickups SOLD

New Topic

--SOLD--

"Duncan Designed" Bridge and Neck pickups from a Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster. Surprisingly nice sounding pickups, especially when used in combination.

I think you might get a little more interest if you show the bobbins front back and side so folks can see if it's plastic or fiber, and what the windings look like etc. And the values in k ohms if possible. I don't need to buy them myself but I'd be interested to see under the covers.

I just got a pair of used Jazzmaster pickups for $20. THe fellow told me he was told they were Korean (Squier?). The bobbins are cellulose fibre, the pole pieces shiny and flat-topped (no radiusing of height) and the windings do not extend very far out – they seem underwound, by JM full-bobbin standards. Any clue about them?

Squink Out!

I spent an hour researching these pups this morning but as yet no one has offered detailed photos or much info (that I can find). Most say they are a good quality build and sound pretty good, one person seemed to think they use Alnico 5. Surely they have to be better than the Fender MIJ/CIJ part.

Will take some more photos shortly. They seem to be glued into the covers though.

FWIW I remember googling a photo of one after someone had pried it out, and I'm 99% sure they were flat/thin like standard JM pickups and not tall like the CIJ ones.

Probably due to wax residue, you could try some gentle heat like a steam vapour from hot water in a basin.

I got a pair for dirt cheap on another forum. I was curious about them so I tried them in a friend's cheap build, and found they sounded better than I had expected.

This is what mine look like. Please note the cloth covered wires are not original.

Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers.

Thanks for those pics. Smile

I can try and pry mine out of their covers if anyone really wants me to to ensure they are the same as the ones shown above, but this is all I have for now...
