Permalink looking for the Surf version of Ghost riders in the Sky.

Anyone know where I might find a backing track and or guitar tabs for Duane Eddy's Ghost Riders in the sky?

Av8r.

Tagged in case you get lucky; been looking for the same thing. There's an old Outlaw arrangement I've seen out on the net, as well as a really nauseating one to a disco beat. Something along the lines of Roy Clark's old arrangement would be fun to play with even. Still looking.

Bruce has a lesson, not sure it it's what you are looking for.

Thanks; I'm familiar with that. He's a pretty generous guy & I asked him if he would toss the b/t up on his soundcloud.

(Noting your location hope the weather doesn't hammer you too bad; a beach shack in Costa Rica is looking good about now.)

Don't know how much help this'll be, but tabs for his version are in here.

That's an imposing photo. I'll wait a bit for that till I start my post-grad work, which is a long way from the freshman course I'm putting myself through... Big Grin

Yeah, that was also my reaction when I opened the book and got a look at the tabs. Scary stuff!

Noel,

DD's version is trem picked. Does not sound anything like Duane Eddy's version.

The tabs for the version by the Ventures is probably available. Still different but closer.

One of my favorite versions was by the Chantays. No tabs around that I know of. Quite different, but has a definite surf feel to it.

I can't seem to get the video to attach. Here's a link.

Tabs for the Stan Jones version and the Outlaws version are both available on-line.

I'll see if Bruce will put up his track; I'm not looking for tabs, just a simple b/t. That pic of DD still catches my eye; makes Steven Seagal look like a wuss.

Here's the Dick Dale version. It is quite different.

For some reason, I cannot get Youtube videos to attach.

Well, yeah, but the basic melody is in there. Ignore the trem-picking and it's... there's a reason I haven't learned to play it either. Sigh

You could try this...

or this.

Here are several versions, I hope one will get you close.

Thanks Harry. Bruce finally put up his .mp3 backing track on his Soundcloud page (or maybe I just finally noticed it). Pretty clean, basic bass & drums.

Couldn't resist - not quite surf, but a nice surf rig and great tone.

The Ramrods version is my favorite. It has a very Duanne Eddy-esque sound. I don't have my guitar w/me but I believe it starts with open E to open A then B/C as the first few notes.

Here's a link for another backing track. http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/play/jamtracks/ghost_riders_in_the_sky_%28am_thru_cm%29.htm .Don't know where to find a surf version though. They also have some Ventures and Shadows tracks

The Torquays do a really fine version on their album A Date with the Torquays. Also, they perform it near the end of the Ed Roth documentary Tales of a Rat Fink. That performance is on YouTube.

Then there's the Trashmen. They did a surf cover of this tune.

Good luck.

SSIV

I was at that rat fink show, and saw the Torquays play it
Over n over n over for the filming.
The director had a real h*** on for that song.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Vaughn Monroe's version is kinda corny, but sooo different from anyone else's.
