Permalink In Praise of the Gretsch G5420T !

I bought a Gretsch G5420T about a year ago intending to use it for a different project / genre, but it's really starting to become my go-to guitar. There's a few minor things I could nit-pick, but overall it's a super value for the $$$ imho. They're about $850 retail and I paid a little less than that (15% off coupon).

I had some doubts about a hollow-body before purchase, but it's proved to be a very versatile guitar.

Great for Surf I might add!

Didn't Bob Vaught use a Gretsch?

I'm not sure but it sounds like a hollow-body of some sorts on the recordings.

They're also bad ass overdriven for playing Link Wray stuff Rock

Relocated my post on this with search! Quoting Bob Daley's article on the Renegaids, and correcting my spelling of Gretsch ...

"I decided it was time to get a good electric guitar, so I sold the Martin and bought a nice Gretsch hollowbody electric guitar, which is what I used until the group broke up in 1964." (Dalley 1996:227)

There's a picture in the Dalley chapter.

The guiatrist for Shadowy Men from a Shadowy Planet used to play a Gretsch hollow-body; not sure what model though.

Kiwamu, our other guitar player uses a 5120 and sounds great with it. I play a Falcon and an Epi Sorrento. Hollows can kill for this music for sure!
