Nice one Matt, glad I could help Smile

Bass Strings Online seems to have processed the LaBella order, so Jeff and my Bass VI will get their flats soon.

Excellent news, Ran. I got word mine were on the way too. I'll have to wait to do the finishing touches on my VI. I wasn't really planning on doing the pickup swap, but was offered a pair of AVRI Jag pickups for an unbeatable price, so...

Anway, thanks again for the swap!

Dude singing with George looks and acts like a animatron.

LOL

They borrowed him from Disneyland. I think it'd be funny if someone re-posted the video with strings attached to him because he moves like a puppet.

Same here! Probably next weekend? I hope. I always tell my buddy to take as long as possible so he can do other work.

Really great work, "Barry White" is coming along nicely!

Perfect looking, Matt!

Thanks Ariel! It was perfect and then I sprayed a clear coat over it after I affixed the decal and it funked it all up. At least it looks great from 2 feet away. I would wet-sand/steel wool it again but I'd probably end up ruining the decal. Sad should have left it alone after applying the decal.

Switches are very tight; they just "click" through the amp when thrown.

Unlike the saddles on my CIJ offsets, these have only a single groove down the middle. If they were like the others, I could just move the high-E string inward one groove and all would be perfect. Maybe I can use some saddles from my Jag on this guitar, as the Jag is currently wearing a StayTrem bridge?

As you can tell, I don't have La Bella flats on it yet. I'm waiting to decide how I really want the guitar ultimately setup, and with what upgraded parts, so I don't waste them on a temporary setup.

)

Ok.. My MIJ VI has single groove saddles like the old 60s. I do know it stands proud of the pickguard fairly well. Where as my VM Jag it almost touches. I don't think anything should be referenced like "bridge to top". it's all about the action at the board.

New anniversary Jags come with a .07" shim in the neck pocket. Given the scale of the VI, a little less may do. Hard to say, really.. Action is such a personal choice. I've had people say, "I can't play that guitar. The strings are too low." It wasn't about buzzing or anything. Just personal preference.

I have no clue what strings are on my VI. They are whatever came on it from the factory 20 years ago.

I did play another SVM VI last weekend (I was picking up a new bass cab). This one seemed to need a lot of work on it compared to others I've played. Apparently it's still the luck of the draw with the VIs? Or this one?

Regardless.. I am a true Squier fan since I bought my 83 Stratocaster brand new.

Also Noel, I see you "promoted" my video on buzzy bridge. Thanks! Any tips we can add to that or vids we can do, let's help everyone out.

Alright, my VI has now been "professionally" set up with LaBella flat wounds. Why the quotation marks? I'm not sure this tech has wrestled too many offsets, much less VI's. First off, lots of buzz from saddles - loctite here I come. Secondly, it's way better, but the low E flop is still lurking, especially when fretting F, F#, G. This of course can get some fret buzz going if you get aggressive. Any suggestions? My guess is that I need even more tension via a neck shim? Is this possible to do without removing strings completely?

On the positive side. He cleaned up the stock nut and filed it properly for the heavier gauge. Doesn't look like chewed gum anymore. Intonation spot on (with room to spare on my bridge for some reason). Trem works fine, though certainly very subtle on the bass anyway. And those strings are fantastic! Like butter really with a sweet tone. Can't wait to sort out this low E string though.

Almost forgot... all white looks awesome, Matt! Nice work.

Before you loctite anything, make sure all of the saddle screws are the same height as their saddle neighbor, if one is higher or lower than the other, that will create buzz and cause the saddle to drop.

Also, make sure the strings aren't touching the intonation screws.

Copy that, Jake. A little tedium that pays off no doubt.

Funny you mention the intonation screws, you know with the way the bridge floats, if I push it all the way back towards trem, the strings do contact intonation screws. It was like that, when I first played it, made for some really funky harmonic overtones on the high E which freaked me out. Centering up the bridge takes care of it though.

This thing is a funny beast, man. So quirky.

Thanks for the compliment, Grizmit. I hope you get this set up nicely. They're tons of fun!

I'm embarrassed to say that the sky is not falling after all. The bridge just needed to be raised a few mm's. No more fret buzz on low E and the action is more to my liking as a result. Totally loving the VI now. Will hopefully post a quick Rubber Band demo with the VI soon!
