I recently got this in a trade and it's too dirty-sounding for me to use it for what I do. Breaks up nicely and gets a great blues sound to it. Mid-1960s Silvertone 1484 head only. This is one of the cleanest ones I've seen with no tears or breaks in the tolex. Previous owner told me all tubes are original, and they are Silvertone tubes. He also wired in the speaker cable so he could use the head with a different cabinet. Original two-prong plug would need to be changed. Can't get reverb or tremelo but I don't know if that's because the foot switch isn't plugged in. There is no foot switch. anyway, this is the model used by Jack White and Dave Grohl and they rave about it. If I were playing a different style of music, I'd entertain keeping it. Asking $400 shipped CONUS but also up for trades to upgrade my Bass VI. Looking for AVRI trem unit and arm as well as 3 AVRI Jaguar pickups that I'd consider giving trade value toward the head. If you'd like more pics, send me a PM.

Jeez, that is one of my all-time favorite amps. I miss my Twin 12 so much. Maybe not ideal for surf, but, heck, that is a good one. If I was playing jump blues or some other rootsy music I would be all over this. Even now I am so very tempted!

It's killer for that type of music for sure! The reverb pan really cracks me up, though.

I played rhythm in a surf band in the 60's with one of these.
The original tubes, BTW are Silvertone labeled RCA black plates. I still have a set of them I pulled from my amp before parting with it.

That's good to know about the tubes!
This amp is fun and I've been using it with my Bandmaster cabinet. I am amazed at the sounds I can get without any effects pedals.

Don't feel too bad about the reverb not working Mine totally sucked. The "pan" is only about 6" long and sounds like it. The original cab had 2 12" Jensen's ceramic magnets I think.

I know. The reverb I had on a previous one years ago howled like mad. The vibrato was pretty good, though.

Great stuff, Samosurfer! I think the amp works really well for your sound and if one can get the reverb to work, then great!

Cool Samo, that tone really works great for your sound, mine never sounded that good unless I ran it at a really low setting, the "hint" of reverb. But then I was the rhythm guitarist and our lead guitarist was playing a Jag thru a Fender reverb tank into a Dual Showman, so for us the the tonal contrast worked as well.

We're finding out that things sound a whole lot better without so much reverb in the mix. With 3 guitars, we have the lead drenched and the rhythm backed off. I think this amp would work with that situation.

I was up in Jerome, AZ (at the Spirit Room) on the weekend and saw the Cadillac Angels play. The guitar player was using one of these Silvertone amps and played a couple of classic Silvertone guitars. They played mostly rockabilly and blues, but did a surf medley and I got them to play Link Wray's Rumble and it sounded really good.

The Spirit room is one of the better venues in the area, played there once, the hotel is supposed to haunted, but I thought the place had a cool vibe.
Matt here's my "brand new" 1484, this was taken the day I got it, thanks to my folks for a killer birthday present. Still kicking myself for selling it.

Well, that 1484 is definitely cleaner than mine! And that's a great picture!
the head I have is pretty clean, but it could use a tune up.
I like Jerome. When were you there, Sonicsurfpilot? Also, I went to high school in San Diego.
