Not sure if I'll do a Fender Trem plate or do a Mastery Vibrato. I want a vintage spring, that is all! The Mastery Vibrato spring(which I played around with today!!!!) is really fantastic.
So... vintage unit... AVRI Unit with a mastery spring, or Mastery unit. I have vintage on all my offsets. I can't stand the blank plate on my VI... it was really bothering me today.
My buddies have a 58-60 plate that I might try and buy off them.

OK, I'm seriously thinking of doing it now. Jake, I'm going to contact you about something.
You want to sell me your white pick guard?

I think too far in advance... sorry! The pickguard has been destroyed for my buddies' custom record pickguards. While you can't make a guard out of a normal 12", they found some jump size records to make guards out of. So this has been sacrificed to the router template gods...
I had every part, save for tremolo, planned out and bought within an hour of buying the VI as well as where each leftover piece was going. It is a sickness or a gift... I don't know which.

Also, and if you go with a white guard it is easy to change back to a tort if you can't live with it. Painting the headstock white, that should just be done automatically regardless of pickguard color.

OK, so Jake's white guard is gone. Anyone up for a trade white for my tort?
I can also ask Bob Kennedy to cut me one using mine as the guide.
Oh how do I talk myself into these things? Easy! It's fun!

Doh! Timing is everything... My trade ship has sailed, but I'll pay forward the $15 (shipped) deal I got on my tort guard from Blake on OSG if interested. My white still has plastic covering and looking for a home. Also FWIW, love the all white idea, but Blake did a white headstock with mint green guard on his OW VI. Looked really sweet also.
In other news, my LaBella flats arrived this am - missing the low E string...? Grrr. Looks like I'll have some free backups out of the deal though.

Hey, if a friend can do it, better to keep the cash flowing in the family!

Thanks for the link! Really cool to see/hear some good use of the VI. Love me some Cocteau Twins, and didn't know the Dandy Warhols employed a VI.

Didn't know that Cocteau Twins track!
Boy, am I enjoying this instrument. I didn't realize how much I love playing bass. Opens up my guitar playing too.
I'm lucky to have the perfect amp for this, the Showman with 15" tone ring cab is taking it beautifully.
Still with the those .85 stock strings, on a whim, I replaced the bridge with my AVRI (since I already got a Mastery on my JM).
Didn't expect much to be honest, the new Squier bridge looks just fine...
With almost no additional setup, oh baby, it just got reborn! Awesome improvement in volume, tone and accuracy. I felt it instantly, just striking the strings unplugged. I wonder what a nice nut will do. And strings. And trem. And ...
Anyway, if someone is pondering upgrading the bridge - I say a definite yes.

I usually use my Dr.Z KT-45 for my Squier Bass VI
but yesterday I tried out a friends Fender (Silverface)Super Six Reverb oh man that was a sweet sound with the VI.
