Started rehearsing "(the) Ventures in Space" album with my Ventures tribute band for the upcoming GUITAR FEST 3. There are some unusual parts (gtr, bass and drums) on the songs. Learning this one note for note, and learning "The Fabulous Ventures" album last year has given me a new respect for The Ventures. There's a lot more going on in each of those albums than I originally thought, plus we're having a ball recreating it (as close as we can as a 4 piece).
Sadly, we have no reverse, gated gong for "Explorations in Terror"

PS: (the) Ventures in Space" & the "Batman" album are my all-time fave Ventures recordings!

Are you gonna make the drummer play outside the club for that one?

Yeah man, totally. In the past 4 months ive learned about 10 Ventures songs (mainly from live in Japan 65) and being able to play them clean and fast is a big PITA.
Definitely worth it though, now when I write a song I have all those tricks and nuances I learned at my disposal.

Wow thats cool I hope the recording comes out well.
Did you hear about Deke Dickerson side band Venturesmania
doing the whole Live in Japan LP a few years back.
Rocking Jelly bean of Jackie and the Cedricks did all the between song chatting.
Deke on lead, Pete Curry on Bass, Garret of Ghastly Ones on Rhythm,(except lead on 50 lb. bee) and Chris (sugar balls) on Drums .

I've seen Venturesmania on the guitar geek DVD. Real cool! I'll bet the Live in Japan redo was awesome! I love the fact that they even added the commentary! Deke puts together some great stuff!!

Hey is there a cd of that?
I didnt know about the Nokie show, thanks...Im there.
Thats funny about the commentary, I was thinking about doing the same thing before playing Slaughter on 10th ave. I used to hate the announcer, but now I love him..."teke teke teke bon bon bon bon sa" (or whatever).
Or, "Ok?...allright?...ALLRIGHT!"

I bought the DVD of the guitar geek thing when Deke was here a couple months ago. I think he sells it on his website too.
Correction, the Ventures show at the Birchmere is THIS MONTH. Thursday, April 26th.

Revhank..
Have you got the chord sequence down to 'Pedal Pusher' from the '.. in Space' album? I have a few Japanesse tab books with it in there but the Em-G-...etc chord sequence is just listed as Em.
I'm thinking it's Em-G-A-B-D or some such flavor. Any help you can render?

I did a powertab transcription of Pedal Pusher recently. I think I got it pretty good... it's here:

Let me know what you think...

I'm pretty sure "Pedal Pusher" is on WDR Vol. 2--I've been listening to In Space a lot recently and it's not on that album. Sounds like Em-G-A-B-D to me, too, FWIW.

There's also the M-Ventures, who did a reproduction of the 1965 Japan concerts.
The cameras used were angled just like as in the "Beloved Invaders" footage.

My mistake.. I meant to say Pedal Pusher from the '.. on Stage' 1965 album. The Em-G-A-D-B chord sequence sounds right.
