In this age of total miniaturisation, I'm always on the hunt to reduce the size of my gigging rig. So, I had a demented idea: an Orange Micro Terror boosted with a Blues Driver, or some other TS style clone, to thicken it out.
I've tried out an OMT before, it seemed loud enough, but plenty thin toward the higher volume. If it worked then imagine the dream - an entire live set up that fits in a backpack. What do you all think? Could it work? Or have I reached mental tipping point!?

I've heard a lot of Orange amps live and didn't like any of them. They break up early and are not suitable for clean surf music, IMO. I'd rather go the Crate Powerblock or Quilter route before buying an Orange amp. Just my 2 cents, YMMV.
I guess it comes down to what you want to achieve with it.

Better off going direct into the board, and allowing pedals to get your sound. A pre-amp pedal of some sort might do it...
Problem with small amps(in wattage), is they tend not to be great surf amps due to breaking up early.
I don't know what your band sounds like, but if you are asking for advice on SG101 chances are you want a 35-85 watt loud Fender sound.

Orange amps get crunchy pretty quick... then their sludgy, loose low end takes over.

Thanks for the responses. Trick with Orange amps is judicious use of the guitar volume knob, they can actually be cleaned up quite nicely even with moderate gain on the amp. It's quite a thick sound still though. This was purely for practicality, I don't drive and horsing a full Fender around on public transport is not a fun option!
The Micro is probably too small though...although you could probably manage a passable clean, there's no way it could be heard over a drummer in hindsight. It's a pity Fender never got into the lunchbox amp game.

I've been in 7th heaven since the Yamaha THR firmware update. The Twin Reverb & AC30 emulations are pretty good, perhaps a little bright sounding from it's little speakers but apparently mic-up well and a few people are using them for live performance. The THR-5 probably weighs about the same as a bag of sugar!
