It already does this Noel.
E.g. if you search for "IvanP Atlantics" and check "Forum Topics", you'll find every forum topic (thread) with Atlantics in the name that Ivan created.

Another thing you can do is visit someone's profile, and then there is a link to view all their forum posts. Useful if you know they posted something recently you wanted to check back on.

Thanks. I didn't know this. But what if what I'm looking for isn't part of a topic, but just text in a post?

Yes, I mentioned that approach. If what I'm searching for isn't on the first few pages, or not in a topic created by the person's post I'm looking for, it can take a very long time to read everything trying to find the post I'm actually searching for.

Every forum post has the post text and post author stored in the index.

No problem. I do have this on the search page:
Most content is searchable by author. For example, to find all forum threads by the user SurferDood101 where the title contains Gnarly, your search term (to be placed in the first text box) would be SurferDood101 Gnarly.

So if a member name is typed in as a search word, it'll be retrieved even if it isn't included anywhere in the post? I never knew that. Duh!
... Never mind...
And thanks! Now if I could only take guitar instruction so easily...

Yes. The following things are stored in the search index for each forum post:
- The post text
- The username of the author
- The full name of the author, if they supplied one in their profile

Yeah. I just sort of expected "Author" to be a separate search field. This is why we should read instructions. Thanks!

Just a reminder. I see a lot of folks searching for an exact phrase but putting the search terms in the wrong box. For example, if you are searching for "voodoo lab super fuzz" you'll want to type all that in the middle box for an exact phrase match. Otherwise if you use the first box you'll get every post with voodoo, lab, super, and fuzz, which is probably more than you want.

Bump for my previous post, above. A lot of people need to use the "exact phrase" search box.

The search form is very finicky and often blows up when you give it "special characters". So please replace all fancy (smart) quote characters with plain old single or double quote characters (or just omit them entirely).
