Malaguena

That gave me goose-bumps! It's a fantastic performance.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Them guys can still play.

Was this thread post a result of this news today or just an unhappy coincidence?

Wow skeeter, that's sad, I didn't know.
Fran and Danny's playing was a big influence on me.

Sad to learn of Frany Beecher's passing. The first rock'n'roll record I ever listened to was my father's copy of "Rock with Bill Haley and His Comets." I still own that record, which includes "Crazy Man Crazy," one of the first rock'n'roll songs to chart.

A couple summers ago my wife and I visited the Rock Hall of Fame in Cleveland where I saw one of Beecher's guitars, a prehistoric hollow-body that had an unbelievably high action. I'm not sure how he could play an open chord on it, let alone some of the riffs he fired off with the Comets. RIP.

When Jeff Beck throws the solo from rock around the clock in to a performance of surfin USA you know where it all comes from.

That is sad about Franny Beecher. I think Bill Haley and The Comets are so underrated when it comes to their roll in the history of rock and roll.
Danny Cedrone was the guitar player on Rock Around The Clock. He passed away just afew months after he recorded it... fell down a flight of stairs

As a sidebar, as a child in the 50's, my first memory of rock was Rock around the clock. It was played during intermission at the dirt track races that were really popular then. I should change that to "jalopy races". Smile

It was prompted by the news, but not about the news. I just remembered I always wanted to hear their take on Malaguena. So I looked again, and several years later, there it was.
