I've taken Unsteady Freddy's lead and will be hosting a monthly surf show here in Atlanta, GA at Kavarna starting in April. The goal is to have one out of town band, a local surf group, and a local non-surf group (rockabilly, garage, psych, etc.). Surf King Surfwear and The Longboards Show, invaluable friends to the community, will be a regular sponsor of the event.
Here's the lineup so far:
April 12: The Monterreys (Charlotte, NC), The Surge!, and Atomic Boogie
May 10: The Mutations (Knoxville, TN), Julea and Her Dear Johns, and Atomic Clock (Atlanta Food Truck Park Surf Fest after party!)
June 7: Monsters of Surf w/ Daikaiju (AL), Kill, Baby...Kill! (Anniston, AL), The Mystery Men?, and El Fossil.
July 12: Phatlynx (Raleigh/Durham, NC), Gemini 13, and Air Wolves.
August 9: The High Fidelics (Birmingham, AL), the Zaratans (Birmingham, AL), and The Biggie Rats (featuring Lester of Gemini 13)

Way cool! I've been impressed with the strong surf scene down there, and this is bound to make it even stronger. One of these years I'm gonna get over there for one of the events.

Robbie, might I suggest Instro Summit? Crispy does just the most incredible job of procuring some of the greatest surf/instro groups in the country. For a lot of us, it's one of the highlights of our year and one big love fest that feels like a family reunion. I'm also biased because it was my second gig with The Mystery Men? and kind of a reintroduction to surf music and brought back my love of the genre I had lost roughly ten years prior.

Chad, I believe it is the 'Zaratans'. You listed the 'Zatarans' above. But I could be wrong and this is a band I am not familiar with that has a heavy Zydeco influence in their surf music. Hahahaha

Despite being a smoker, I have grown to appreciate non-smoking venues so much. Frankly, after long nights spent in smoking venues, I feel so much worse the next day than I do after playing non-smoking venues and just ducking outside to indulge in my own nasty habit.
