Slacktone recorded some jazzy-sounding songs, like "Hit Man" and "Reflection: Life or Lemming". The original "Walk Don't Run" by Johnny Smith is fun to listen to, since I first heard the surf version by The Ventures. —https://striciizozadja.bandcamp.com/ Last edited: Feb 08, 2014 04:01:18 |

Check out this old episode from Check 1,2 when Fuel TV showed something other than MMA fights. It's not surf but the music is great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4MW1h5uoY0 |

I would argue that the Huntington Cads and the Vanduras might fit that bill. Here are some others: —The Squares - 1995-2002 |

We, Urban Surf Kings, do some of this in our live shows, especially when we play some Mancini songs: Shot In the Dark, Pink Panther, Mr. Yunioshi, Charade, banzai Pipeline... Rev —Canadian Surf |

Check out "Mambo Sinuendo" by Manuel Galbàn & Ry Cooder, which actually is really neither Surf nor Jazz, but then again sounds a bit like both of it. If that makes any sense. Also: Marc Ribot played a bit of jazzed up surf when he came to Berlin a few years ago. His recordings with Los Cubanos Postizos may also be worth checking out. —Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin) |

The Setzer stuff? —original compositions (low-level demo stuff /out of tune, etc) myStuff not my best, but i don't like to be in a musician community without anything to show |

Ribot is described as the 'world's best sloppy guitarist'. He likes guitars that are by jazz standards, poorly set up, so he has to struggle with them. That seems kind of surf to me, the preference for Jags and Jazzmasters with thick strings and high action over too easily-played Strats 'set up right'. Ribot makes a lot of the quirks of Fender and other guitars, physical things like fret-out and buzz. |

I missed most of the festival out of my own stupidity and only was there on the second day (Boom Pam, Bambi Molesters and a screening of "Step into Liquid"). But this was long before I actually felt comfortable enough to talk to anybody actually involved in surf music (althoug I already played in a surfband for some years). I think I actually stood right behind you most of the concert. But I saw Ribot with his trio a few months ago, which mostly performs free jazz in the style of Albert Ayler. I liked it but never the less got a headache from it. JObeast wrote:
A record with Frisell playing surf would be great, but I think it is rather improbable to happen. It seems like only few of the man's projects ever get on a record. He also played on John Zorn's "Naked City" which has quite a few but very brief spy/surf moments thrown into the tunes. Pretty wild stuff! Considering Joe Pass: I actually used to run one of his solo concerts through an amp sim with a lot of spring reverb just to see what it would sound like. I also tried it with some fuzz, but these jazz chord somehow work much better with a surf sound Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin) |

Not a real band but another great moment, where surf met jazz: Dusty Watson, Don Boomer and friends pounding their way through "Sing Sing Sing" during the members's jam of the SG101 convention 2010. —Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin) |
