Permalink Mr. Rebel Chords?

New Topic
Page 1 of 1

Along with my regular surf band, K-39, here in Maryland, each year I participate in a Gretsch guitar community "Roundup" gathering in Baltimore.

I play a surf set with a couple of guys from Baltimore and this year, a fellow Gretsch enthusiast from Fredericksburg, VA is joining us in playing a 20 minute set where he'll be covering the rhythm parts and playing lead on a few other tunes.

Anyhoo, I've found chord sheets for all of the songs we're doing that our rhythm guitarist does not yet know with the exception of Mr. Rebel by Eddie & The Showmen. I'm handling lead duties on it but I'm trying to help out our friend by hunting down the chords.

I'm hoping you can help me out as my plate's pretty full right now with learning lead parts for a bunch of other songs for this event and my regular band. Worse case, I'll just work it out on my own but if you guys can save me some time, I'd be grateful!

Are you needing an actual chart, with all the timed changes/notation, or simply to KNOW the chords in the order they appear (and the two key changes)?

I can't help with the former (I don't know how to write all that kind of stuff out), but in case you're simply after the chords, how/when they appear, I can help with that (I play them barred at the fifth fret, the "D", and work around there...barre chords around frets 5-9 for all the below chords).

D G A D (2x)
D Bm D A
D Bm Em A D

D --> Eb
modulate up 1/2 step, to Eb (same pattern as above)
Eb Ab Bb Eb (2x)

Eb --> E
modulate up 1/2 step, to E (same pattern as above)
E A B E (2x)
E C#m E B
E C#m F#m B

"Stab" immediately prior to solo drum break (and dropping the song back down to the original D key)
E F E Eb D

Final verse same as the first verse:
D G A D (2x)
D Bm D A
D Bm Em A D

Em A D
Em A D

Final "flourish" (I think it's the lead guitar, but including it anyway):
D Eb F Eb D

Someone else is welcome to "check my work" (I'm new here, a recent convert to this music, etc.). But I think this will get you 98% of the way there.

Thanks for posting this reply pscates! I've had no luck finding any info on it.

You're welcome! It seems to be a fairly straightforward song. I think the speed and key changes might make it seem more complicated than it actually is. If you learn the first part (in D), that pretty much covers the rest of the song...you simply scoot up one or two frets (to Eb and E, as needed), but the patterns/progressions are the same.

If you listen to the recording, the rhythm guitar is playing these brisk little "rat-a-tat-tat" patterns, and I think that goes a long way as well to nailing this part as well.

I think I would use a G instead of the Em.....

I guess either would work. It never sounded like a full G (4th) to me, but they're both similar (share a G and B) that it could work. I listen to the bass and it just sounds like it goes up to the E note instead of a G.

But I'm not gonna argue with anyone here. I'm a total newbie. Smile

No worries, I'm not arguing either...Just throwing that out there because that's the way I always played it...it has been a while though.

Thanks so much, guys, I really appreciate it. Brian_66 is our rhythm guitarist for this event. Cool
