Permalink Chris Barfield - Cads tone

New Topic

I'm absolutely fascinated by his tone with the Cads.
He's got a really warm tone that has just the perfect amount of brightness, it gets me everytime listening to tracks like Blue Sounds and Always Anna.

I'm not looking to achieve that sound for myself, but I'm just curious as to what he was using back in those days.

I know he had his Jazzmaster, but what amp was he running?
He had a Tele and AC30 for their reunion shows, but anybody have insider info on what he was running in the "Introduce the New Sound" era?

David, I know what you mean. The guitar tones captured on the Cads recordings are nothing short of gorgeous. So clean, so pure, so vibrant. I asked original drummer Jeff Utterback, and he said that during the "Go Exotic" sessions, Barfield used a Strat, a Tele, a Jag and a Bass VI, all vintage. Amp-wise, it was a vintage (early) Vibrasonic and vintage tank.

Thanks David for the question and to you Jonpaul for the reply. All these things make added directions to travel for someone returning to guitar and the real music of my youth.

Really enjoy your show by the way (NSSR is going if I'm in the house) and was very pleased to see Orion Canyon make the playlist. That song flat knocks me out to the point where I'm already getting the homework ready for the next Top 101.
