Permalink El Gato guitar tab by Chandelles wanted

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 Next

Anyone have a source either online or in print for the guitar tab of "El Gato" by the Chandelles? My surf music books don't have it and I've had no luck online.

Wasnt there a thread for searching tabs for it yet? At first: I have got no tabs. But I played it one or two years ago in live sets. I remember this great piece of surf music is not easy to play. Maybe it sounds easy but it isnt! I remember that it was not possible to play it in the same harmonies like the original version!
I think the recording is pitched a little bit or the guitars were in a different tuning?
Anyway, it is possible to play it in E. Start the song with the empty low E string and it will be easier.
…when I find time I can do a "How to play…" video for you tube. I am not the best in music theories, but I can show a way to play it. …soon.

Twang cheers!

hi!

"Anyone have a source either online or in print for the guitar tab of "El Gato" by the Chandelles? "

I have a gross version once written down. surprised to hear Ralfs comments on it. In my opinion, it is simply a I - IV - V progession in F# minor ...

send me your mail-address, maybe my humble effort is of some help ...

What is a I - IV - V progression in F# minor???
I do not know anything about such complicated music theory…
Ok, I have heard there is a F# minor in music.
But El Gato is in E my friend. If you play something different, do it. Be creative with this nice surf song.

If you have some tab, why not upload it here?

Not sure how useful this will be since English is not your first language, but here's a pretty simple explanation of what people mean by I - IV - V. This stuff, even the basics, is rarely seen as useful by people who are self-taught ear players, but for those of us hacking our way through it it's a good way to start to understand things while we try to develop an ear. I also like the number system as a way of communicating about it.

mostly because it is inaccurate - however, as a starting point, i will submit it as i apparently cannot post ASCII-tabs here Smile

@ ralf: you know that I really, really appreciate your musicianship! but that scale is F# minor! beim erdäpfelsalat meiner oma!!!!
... you can play E Mixolydian instead. still this is F# minor Very Happy

what is inaccurate here is the chord - arpeggio from the V to the IV (that is, in that case, C# and B ...). that I - IV - V thing is the most popular chord progression in popular music, it refers to the chords that can be built out of the chosen scale.

You can put tabs in a forum post if you use the code block. But it's probably better for longer pieces to upload it to the file section.

I'm with Ralf, from what I remember that song is either sped up or slowed down or something making it a bit hard to figure out by ear if you are trying to play along with the recording.

Also don't worry if it is inaccurate. Almost all tabs on the internet are inaccurate. You post what you got so others can improve upon it.

hi!
as i just had a small e-mail-discussion with alain, I think that the major concern here is the intro. in my opinion, they had 2 guitar players. while lead guitar plays the intro, the rhythm guitar plays a staccato on F#. if one tries to play that tune by oneself alone, it might get tricky, and it might make sense to play the song in E-minor. but then, the melody becomes a little more complicated. here it would make sense to shift the melody one octave up ...

Number 9 & El Birkerio: Thank you very much, El Gato is a difficult tune to decipher.

I am playing ElGato with my band...in the key of G ....
it's definitely a 1-4-5 or so my bassist says
start on G on low E string and chugga chug

those cool descending licks linking the parts together are just a pentatonic scale on the high E string, start with your pinky on 13th fret F

I dont really know anything about theory ,I just pick 'em out by ear....El Gato sounds way more difficult than it really is..once I sat down and figured out that it was in 'G' it came to me pretty quick.

ASR,

What is the name of yer band?
Do you play out live?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Arab Spring Reverb ,of course..yes we play live
next gigs are @ the Carlsbad Marathon (Cannon Park) 1/19/14 ,
again @ Mods vs Rockers (13th annual) either 1/24/14 @ Tower Bar San Diego or 1/25/14 @ Riviera Room
2/19 /14 Mother's Saloon Ocean Beach

The arpeggiated chords in the intro and breaks have added notes – not just Major/minor triads. This makes the tonality ambiguous and 'floaty'. I haven't tried to figure it out (it hasn't grabbed me just yet) but if I were to figure it, I'd start with chorus and work back from there, as it's less ambiguous; once you get that figured, the logic of the intro/break will be clearer.

Squink Out!

hi!

2/19 /14 Mother's Saloon Ocean Beach

way cool - at that time, I will be in San Diego. see you there!!!

when will you play?
