My Fellow SG101 Members and Reverb Junkie Enthusiasts:
I have been unable to post my surf music videos from the Surf Guitar 101 Weekend from August 2013 essentially because all my notes from the Convention itself, then Saturday evening's after-Convention concert, and Sunday at the Huntington Beach Surfin' Sundays Pier have gone missing.
I have looked high and low in a portion of my little apartment where these notes once were. I find evidence here and there; a band here, and some song titles; a band there, notes about the band, etc. Same be said for the Surf Jams that preceded the full band line-up of performances at The Starting Gate,......and beyond, Thanks for Carol/Mom Surfing for the emails which provided me with some of her notes and memories of the Surf Jams.
I have a proposal, and I need to hear a reaction. Make that, a bunch of reactions. I'm hopeful Jeff Big Tiki Dude Hanson, who I am eternally grateful to for all he has down for this genre we all love, can lead the charge.
What I think would work is that I will load in videos, slowly, event by event; band by band. People can feed me info by filing notes in this thread -- song titles, covers (and who did the originals), special guests who joined the band on stage etc. What I will do is that I will make these videos available through my YouTube Channel, in 'waves' (pun intended). They will be unidentified save for their "MVI" numbers. In this thread I will list the links, and await for people to react.
I will then take those links down, they will be removed from my Channel. And then I will have to re-post them. Why? Because there is this odd quirk with YouTube: once you open a video, make it public, and for instance, there is a typo in the band name or song title, and you simply "correct" it.....guess what? When you grab the URL link, and post it, it pops open with the original wrong information. Thus, each video has to be re-loaded back in to my Channel, and then the correct info inserted therein.
It is a painstaking pain in the ass. But I am up for the challenge.
So what I am asking is for help from the surf community that I love so dearly.
The day I got back to NYC on the red-eye from LAX, my life has, as they say in the auto field, "downshifted" dramatically. Dig this: I arrived at JFK at 5 am, took the Air-Train to the Long Island RR. Took the LIRR to Penn Station. Took a cab to my apartment in Hell's Kitchen, Dragged my luggage up 5 flights of stairs (with my unsteady feet!). Stripped, showered, shaved, threw on a suit (no tie-fuck that!), shoes etc., headed back down the stairs. Two buses to Grand Central Station. Metro-North to White Plains NY. 5 blocks walk to my job. I'm exhausted just typing that!! Turned out it was the last day at that job. Let's just say that day SUCKED! But I also have gained a sense of freedom. And of course it's riddled with fear.
Since then, I've been "working for myself" in the same professional field I have been a success with since 1997. Many of you are aware I am an attorney (how scary is that?) but I make my living (or did, anyway) selling appellate printing services to lawyers and law firms. And at one point was doing pretty damn well!! Now, with myself as my boss, and not too bad a commute (I work out of my house), I'm dealing with the frustrations any new small business would bring. I am acting as a "broker", a "go-between" -- the concept is I am asking my old clients to hang in there with me, I will still be involved with their work needs, while I pass that work on to one of 2 or 3 appellate printers I am working with. But my financial insecurity is just screwing me up. Yet I'm a highly spiritual guy and I continue to just trudge threw the mud. It is also giving me a chance to also kick up my videography and photography, and I am working on music artist management and tour booking!! So my life has enormous potential!! I just wish it would "hurry up"!!
Why tell you all this? Because when I got home from that fateful day, I collapsed...and really couldn't move for a few days. My body and brain (assuming I had one) all needed to reboot. Papers got mixed together, piles were created, files were created, big boxes were used, papers dumped here, there, everywhere. Etc Etc. In the process, the notes from SG 101 CONVENTION WEEKEND just cannot be found. It has upset the shit out of me to say the least. This is not my usual Capricorn style.
So I need to know if folks here are willing to work with me. I will load videos into YouTube (some are already there, actually), and I will post them here, if this process is going to happen. Again, I will then kill those links, and re-post them in my other Surf Videos Thread that I started here already. That link is: http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/22061/
I should add that a handful of hospitalizations also brought even more and mpre papers, pamphlets, etc., into an already crowded space.
So before I begin this process, I need to know if there is enough interest here for me to get all of my SG 101 VIDEOS posted? I am assuming (and hoping!) there is.
Secondly, can I count on some of you to help me with this project? It is killing me that these videos are not available to my Friends here and the fans of this glorious genre.
Please comment when you can, as soon as you can. Depending on the reaction this gets, I will know what my next move and subsequent moves will be.
I love this music, and am dying to share what I have with you all.
Thanks for the love, encouragement, and your help
