Permalink using and electric 12 string for rhythm parts.

Trying something a bit different. I picked up a china clone of the strat 12 for $120.00 just to see what happens. I do rhythm parts so I thought why not give it a go. Keeping it clean and using just a pinch of reverb at the amp, we did Mr Moto and Apache with it last night at rehearsal and I felt it sounded pretty good, sort of an organic chorus thing going on. Thinking of making it a 10 sting by removing the hi octave strings on the low E and A. Like a BC Rich Bich. Also thinking of tuning the G in unison
Anyone else try using a 12 string as a surf rhythm tool?? Advice?

A lot of hit songs from the 60's had an acoustic 12 string strumming chords in the background.

It should sound good Smile

I used a 12 string with a flanger on my recording of Surfin' And Spyin' for last year's (2012) members compilation. Number 12 here: http://surfguitar101.com/downloads/details/468/

Don't know if you are familiar with Craig Anderton. He's a pretty well know electronics music guru. Back in the 60's he was in a group called Mandrake Memorial (not surf). I was a huge fan of the band, and went to see them and chat with Craig as much as I could. Craig played a 12 string Rickenbacker with a high E and B string removed. That let him play single string lead on the the remaining E and B, and also play those cool sounding "12" string chords.

We are in the studio now, and am using a 12 string Rick on 2 of our new songs, highly recommended.
