I'm playing catch up with the last few podcasts. WOW! I have to keep some paper close by so I can add to my list of great music to watch out for.
And thanks for the kind words about The Apollo Four and Portland in general. It IS a decent town and I'm glad that we treated you and Marie well during your visit.
And I'm in 100% agreement with your comments about Satan's Pilgrims! Living here I've been lucky enough to see them many many times, but the shows at the Crystal Ballroom with the bouncing dance floor are some of the most memorable!
Thanks Jonpaul!

I'm a lonely surfer in the IRC today. Great show again, though.

Jonpaul, the William Tell Overture prompted a question. Has anyone ever tried to arrange an entire concerto for string quartet as surf music? Something maybe by Mozart or Chopin perhaps?
And someone else thinks you could put together a set of surf music versions of orchestral music.

Thanks, Noel! The Classical/Surf crossover has been a pet project of mine for a long time. There's definitely a special show in the works. Have you listened to Episode 6 of the SG101 Podcast? It's an exceptional cross-section of selections.

I greatly look forward to hearing the special show when you put it together. As for the podcast, I never did listen to it... ... until now. Thanks for the reminder.

That podcast is terrific. The set clarified something about The Baronics that occurred to me while listening to their songs on YouTube. IMHO, the better songs are more like variations on a melody than straight renditions. Odd how the comparison revealed how much more there is to surf music than just lots of reverb and generous use of vibrato bars. I haven't fully thought this through, but their songs weren't as surfy as I expected; certainly nothing like what's in this podcast. Very illuminating. But there's no denying the terrific guitar playing and talent of everyone in The Baronics.
I should add that this particular podcast has Part 1 of an interview with John Blair (Jon and the Nightriders among his many achievements). Part 2 is in podcast 7. If you're a new member, you owe yourself a listen to this and all these podcasts.

For anyone that has tuned in and wondered WTF? today...sorry for the inconvenience. The station is undergoing some yearly technical maintenance. FJ will be back next week with an all-new show! Cheers!
