Our guitar player is a huge Les Paul junkie. I think his favorite is a Les Paul Jr that he added a Bigsby B70 to.
I know the humbucking pickups create a very thick sound, but are there any guitarists here that use a Les Paul solid body?

Does this count? They're on SG101, and maybe someone can tell us exactly what pickups are in the red guitar. But it sounds good to me. It shows up in a lot of their videos.
Here's another with the same guitar.

I've used a Gibson ES-355 our last couple gigs and for many practices. They sound absolutely great. Same thing as a Les Paul, the only sound slightly different.

The tremolo arm on the rhythm player's Strat fell off at 4:47.

Hi!
I mainly play a Firebird, but it features a M3 singlecoil in the neck and a TV Jones Powertron in the bridge. It also features more sustain than a Fender but less BOOM than a LP...

Yeah, Ivan. That's a good one!
Are there any where the Les Paul is played with some distortion?
I'm wondering if a fatter guitar sound would work. Something that would satisfy the thrash fans here but still fall within the big, broad genre of "surf instrumental".

Thrash is pretty far out man. Maybe a coil splitting mod would work if you cant give up the buckers.

I don't get why people coil-tap humbuckers... most just are not meant to be tapped. They are not designed to be single-coils and therefore don't sound good when just one coil is sent to ground. Some designs sound better than others, but still... Wiring them in series and parallel is more interesting and results in more useful tones.

Cool is in the ear of the beholder. I'm a hard core Fender guy, but I've been playing a Les Paul repro for about 8 months and really dig it.

I play a Les Paul Standard some times for some songs. I use the bridge/neck combo and like the way it hits my amp hard for some stuff.
