That's awesome; I knew it was similar to a fighter plane logo, but didn't know if that was intentional or not. My grandfather was in the Marines for several years in the late 60s/70s and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He mainly worked with warehousing munitions for the ground troops but also did some munitions support for the aircraft. As far as the reissues go, I don't know if the ones I'm looking at are newly reissued or not, although I do know they are supposed to be "new." That could be connotative or denotative, so I'm going to guess that means literally new. I'm just perusing on Google Shopping Search if that helps. |

Here's a link to what they're selling on Sweetwater, it looks like the one in the link you showed with string-thru: As far as what I'm looking at, here's basically the list. I saw one on GC online for cheap, but the neck looked 5 different ways of f'ed up: |

I'd prefer anything but Sunburst, as I have seen enough bursts to get sick of them. I really like the Red and the Black one, but the White is pretty nice (I heard it was rare, so I dunno.) |

Haha well I guess I just caused even more GAS pain for everyone. I still think I might try to get an older one. If I could just find a body I'd buy it and put a regular Tele neck on it. I'm surprised how hard it is to find parts for a '51. |

I would say get the neck too cause it's a nice feeling neck on the 51. |

That black one is the one that I noticed had a really f'ed up looking neck. It's like it's split at the second fret. I'd consider getting it and buying a replacement neck, but not for 150. :/ |

Kian that looks like a bad photo reflection or a price tag, |

I sure hope so and that it isn't actually a busted up neck, because that would definitely be something to be wary of. If it's still around in a few days I'll definitely look into it, as I'll be home (and near a big city with a GC |

Will do, and if so I'll post it here as a NGD post. Between this and a Tele Bajo Sexto/Bass VI idea I'm looking into, I'm going to dream of guitars yet again tonight. XD |

About those prices, the one I didn't buy was used but well-cared for. It was also under $140.00 at my local guitar store. Maybe I should have bought it, yes? —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

Here's a picture of mine. I picked it up on a lark off of Craigslist. I was never a fan of Indonesian Squiers based on my past experiences, but this softened me up. It's that butterscotch color that they seem to have done away with on the new ones in favor of a whiter blonde. I think it's cool. I don't find the neck to be particularly thick. It's not as thick as some Stratocaster necks I've played and not as thick as the neck on my MIM Telecaster. If that's your thing, you should hunt for a body and buy a fat D profile Tele neck for it, IMO. I'm not sure how much being string-through matters on these (I don't think I hear one), but the older non-string-through bodies do allow for a Bigsby type trem option, which I think would be cool. All nice pics- I drool yet again. XD The new ones look pretty nice, and if the neck is thin I could probably get used to it. I'm actually debating on whether or not to get a Bass VI conversion neck from DC Kunckle to throw on it, so the neck it has stock may be a moot point. All I know is that I cannot find a loaded body for any cheaper than an entire 51, so my cheapest option is looking to be to get a 51 and just modify it over time. The other option I've thought about if I do go the route of Bass VI is to get an unfinished Tele body and add another cut-away somehow. My little sister has taken a few carpentry courses, so perhaps that would be good sibling bonding time. Going back to what Richard said, another mod I've thought about for the 51 is to put a Tele-style bridge with a humbucker cavity in the ashtray, like what Guitarheads sells. I know the grounding issues are kind of moot, but aesthetically I like the look of a Tele ashtray. I would just hope it lines up somewhat with the pickup location. |
