Permalink A surf gig length record..the Royal Aces in Denver

Well, for US it's certainly a record. For the Denver Beer Company's block party on Oct. 11, we played from 3 to 9 pm (six sets), with the usual brief set breaks after each set. We had enough material, and the pay was very nice, but we wondered what it was going to be like physically. Interestingly, since the crowd was huge, boisterous, and very positive in their reactions to a surf band, each set seemed to go by more quickly and easily...and I made sure to keep the water going, and to sit during every break. Turned out fine, although there was some pretty solid napping on Saturday.

Sounds ideal

Surf Daddies

Holy moly, 6hrs of surf music and still a non affiliated audience? Sounds like a perfect day. Congratulations.

The Hicadoolas

That's the way we're looking back at it, Sancho: a perfect day. Outdoors, nice stage, pounding out surf/instro at a good, strong volume level, with hundreds of hip customers who are rocking out happily to all the tunes. We couldn't have asked for a better day!

That must be 10,000 songs. Wow!!!

Actually, about 70...but it felt like 10,000.

Congratulations! Please say there's some video? I'd love to see some.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Thanks for asking, Noel. So far, the only one we've found is one of those little Vine videos someone posted online. We're playing one of our originals, "Malibu".

Thanks, but my computer doesn't let me play it. Sigh

Give this one a shot, Noel. You have to scroll down the page to find the one titled something like Jam at Denver Beer Co Royal Aces...

It plays, but only an infinite loop of the first few seconds over and over.

Yes, that's what those little Vine videos do - they only run for about 10 seconds. We're hoping that other videos from that gig will pop up somewhere...
