I'm not short on vibrato guitars but i'm wondering ,is thier a guitar you love but it doesn't have the quientensential vibrato bar.
and do you surf with it.musically of course.

If ya'll have the time post pics please. Yes

Hi, "musically of course", haha! Not as real surfboard...

One of my fave non trem guitars is the Danelectro DC59 reissue.
I have the same one in complete copper like here in the video:

The neck is ok for a bit bending the notes like with a Tele neck.
I have 11-50 strings on mine. It is not comparable to a surf sound with a Jazzmaster with 13-56 strings.
But I also played this Dano live with a lot of fun! A lightweight guitar for sure.
The Dano is a cheap guitar, easy to play and very nice looking in this color. Worth to check out!

Twang cheers!

I love playing a Tele for surf, but don't have one with a whammy...

So-ooo, building a copy of this puppy as we speak:

Download (for free!) "Overhead At Darrington"--fiddle tunes arranged for surf-style electric mandolin--by Bruce Harvie and The Sandfleas here...

We have some songs without Vibrato bar, don't know if they are surf, that's for others to decide, but what I do know is that if there's a vibrato on a guitar it's like crack to me and I've got to use it at some point, LOL.
For non-vibrato material I'll use my Harmony Stratotone, One of my Danelectros, and old EKO or lately our prototype guitar.

sure I have some non vibrato guitars I love....I used an SG Jr w/p90 and a Les Paul DC and an old Melody Maker when I was using Marshalls and playing that heavy punk and roll stuff...
but for surf I always use Fenders with a bar....oops forgot the bar @ my second gig ;I just bent the neck when needed. Big Grin

right up my alley!! i use a telecaster, non whammy!!! in the early 60's i used a silvertone (dano made) with no whammy bar for surf. when i got back into surf in the early 90's, i found myself locking or blocking my strat trems. the strats went eventually followed by squiers w/trems and various other guitars but i returned to the telecaster recently. seems to do its job well, i play non surf music too so its the guitar for me. i don't live for the "dip" but i love reverb and DD type tremolo picking!!!! Agree

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

The choice of guitar for this vid always makes me laugh when I here the obvious whammy dips

He must have been flexing the neck really quickly. Laughing

I usually use a Les Paul with p90s. When we played with the D-Rays, ERay told me he wasn't a fan and for the most part I agree. I do love the bar's ability to instantly create musical chaos, though. I just seem to like the stiffer feel of a non tremolo guitar

hallmarksweptwinger i watched the video my jaw fell open at about 6:09
what a great sound i didn't expect that full sound to pop out that geetar.
it has a metal nut huh i suspect that would twang and sustain longer.
i had a silvertone that resembles that danelectro.

Yeah i think playing without one makes you develope your natural techniques and pick style,i'm wracking my brain thinking should i or shouldn't i put a whammy.

Check dude out .
no trem rick

Well ok he's not playing the main part but the other gretsch guy isn't touching the trem

Notice how Enthusiastic the drummer is. Zzzzz
