Permalink WTB Yamaha SGV parts

New Topic

Hi, I am about to build a SGV. I have managed to find a SGV-tremolo.
So if you have other SGV parts, especially the roller-bridge, knobs, pickups, I am very interested ! Smile
I think it will to be a nice project.

Normally I'm all about the DYI thing, I've built a couple of strats myself, but you might just be better off buying the SGV in this case... you can get many of the parts directly from Yamaha at elevated prices, but you'll be spending a lot more than what people are typically paying for these guitars.

SGVs come up on Ebay quite frequently and usually have spectacular prices. My prediction is that you would spend more building one than actually just purchasing one outright.

Thanks for the comments!!
I have never seen a SGV here in Sweden Sigh
I suppose the easy way is to just buy one on Ebay. But I prefer building a SGV. This way I can have it exactly as I want it. It's a great feeling to play a guitar you built Laughing
Maybe I will have to use P-90 pickups...

I have all the parts you need! Attached to a complete SGV-800. I'll ship to you for $450 + shipping.

Thanks for the offer!
I will have that in mind.

The idea of the P90s is not a bad one. Since these are so well known to have a very mosrite style tone, perhaps actually contacting Bob Shade at Hallmark or Ed Roman to get some wound to mosrite specs would be an interesting experiment.

Here, you could get the SVG-800 tuners

Neck plate should be standard. You just need a a bridge.

Thanks a lot Iguana!
They look identical. Smile

How do you go about buying parts from Yamaha? I would love to get some SGV300 pickups.

It appears that since the SGV line was discontinued, Yamaha24x7 has stopped selling parts for this product line, unfortunately. Back in 2009, I was able to order a vibrato arm for my SGV 800 (ARM ASSEMBLY FCRM33G (CR) SGV300 item# QC541100), but a search doesn't even pull up that part number anymore. My advice is still to just wait for a complete SGV on the used market, and take from it what you want.

I wouldn't mind seeing an SG-3C reissue, now those are really hard to find.
