Hi everyone,
I'm so glad to announce that the "ABIERTO DE SURF INSTRUMENTAL" is going to take place in the southern area of Mexico City on November 9, 2013. This is a special event for many reasons. Since 1998 the Mexican Surf Scene has been growing little by little and nowadays has a real fan base, lots of bands, regular venues and the most important thing ... all these people (artists & fans) know each other, so we can say a community has been established. Most of the time Mexican surf fans go to venues have some drinks, dance and have good party. Knowing this "Min III" and "El Yelo" (members of the Mexican surf band Los Oxidados) started planning and working on an event that can bring all the community even closer, taking away egos and "surf star attitudes" the main goal is to offer not just another "surf fest" but something that helps to promote the International Surf Culture here in Mexico and also as a showcase for new quality bands.
I got involved in this project a few day ago when I offered Min III to provide some vintage amps & contemporary reverb units of my own for the backline and also via "Planeta Reverb" wich is a FB page that my friend James Hid created to spread and promote music from all over the world here in Mexico and Latin America (we have about 1,300 friends),all this just because I want to add efforts so this event develops its maximun potential.
You could say it's a kind of the Mexican version of the SG101 Convention, not a big profitable project in terms of money but really cool in terms of preserving and developing the instrumental genre and community union in benefit of all of its members.
I'll be posting news and updates daily if possible, so hope you turn you eyes down to Mexico and stay tuned to know more about this event.
