So I've got a chance to buy a 1963ish "tuxedo" fender baseman with original cab and possibly speakers. Yup, the super rare transitional blackface/black tolex but white knobbed with presence control 6g6b circuit. A local music store that never gets anything good in just got it and they only want 1400 for it, which strikes my as an exceptionally good deal.
I fired it up the other day and it sounds great, although, it might need some fixin up as the volume did flutter somewhat until the amp had been on for a while and the tubes where sufficiently hot. I also don't know if the speakers are original, I was gonna ask em to take the back off next time I stopped by. Does anyone know what speakers came stock with these? Jensens? Oxfords?
I'm really more of a showman kinda guy, I like a super clean full round sound, so I'm kinda on the fence about buying it, and only wanna get it if it's a pretty good deal. What do y'all think? Thanks!

Can't figure out how to attach a pic, but here's a link. http://s118.photobucket.com/user/steveokla/media/BLONDES/tuxedobassman.jpg.html

Yes, you should buy it. Bassman's are still clean. A Showman and Bassman aren't too much different, especially brown.
The chassis should be stamped as a '64, which doesn't hurt anything. Black with white knobs is black with white knobs.
And if you don't buy it, let me know which store and I will find somebody that will, it is a good enough deal to turn around to make a profit on.

Most of these came with Oxfords. That's what's in my blond Bassman. I was thinking of upgrading to a "premium" speaker, but I liked the Oxfords so much, I kept 'em. They're relatively cheap to recone, and the new kits seem to sound fine.

Yeah, I think I'd be foolish not to get it. I'll probably never see another one and certainly not for such a reasonable price. Plus it'll look downright sharp with my black tolex white knob reverb unit.

Sounds like a good deal on a great amp! That's a great look!
