Okay with me if it's holding a guitar. Big Grin

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Nah, real shitheads get run out of town pretty quick. And I think Nigel's just expressing an opinion, nothing shitheaded about it; many here will just disagree with it. But you're right, absolutely no reason to lose tempers over something so minor.

Now this makes me want to bang my head against a wall.

Brian: Well done on the web site in general. It is an awesome resource for us reverb freaks but a relatively thankless job. I imagine herding cats is actually easier than herding musicians/guitarists particularly with the veil of relative anonymity the web provides.

Maybe we could all toughen up a bit to overcome avataphobia

Whorehay: Your shows f*#kin' rock. I dig it completely.

You are correct Morphball, purely opinion, I shall keep them to myself in future. However, it is not Brians site, but on reflection I will concede that it is not the users site either, more of a symbiotic relationship which of course is why people should get on, and by and large do just that.
Im going to plug my Sonic Blue thin skin jag into my reissue tank (modded a la SG101 advice) into my reissue Vibroverb (modded a la SG101 advice) and forget I ever had this conversation.

Please add rainbows, unicorns and sparkles to complete the package.

I am now moved to make my yearly contibution to the donations kitty.

I've herded cats. Brian's job is WAAAY tougher.

Family therapy! Fun!

This thread seems to be drifting into a second topic of newbies feeling left out, but it's pretty related to the original topic. In fact, I've seen multiple instances where someone's first post or two is simply a link to a personal project with little/no explanation, and in those instances these issues are one and the same.

I think Brian's strategy of referring people to new threads is right on the money. It's helpful and constructive, but just an unfortunate misunderstanding if it's construed as dismissive.

The fact is that many people have been on this site for over -holy crap- SEVEN years at this point, myself included, and after that long there really is no need for another thread about 'which reverb pedal' or which is the best amp/guitar/cable/etc. They're pretty subjective issues anyways, and after scores of posts on the matter over the course of years, I frankly find those topics screamingly boring. I'm more extreme in that opinion than most people here, but still I'm sure many regulars would see little need in re-beating those classic dead horses. But of course a new guy/gal doesn't have that same perspective, so if they ask direct them to join in where the conversation left off. If they have something new to contribute, all the better.

As far as people frustrated with a lack of response to their music: agreed, the best approach is to engage in the site first. A simple link to your soundcloud page doesn't excite me about your music at all - there's nothing enticing about an anonymous hyperlink! But if I've seen someone has recently joined the site and contributed some valid, interesting posts on the subject of actual surf music, when I see they have a band I'm usually much more interested to hear their try at it. What frustrates me as a site regular is that that type of conversation has regressed over the years here.

It's also frustrating to hear people say they don't think they have enough 'expertise' to warrant contributing a song review or something. I think that's total bullcrap! By all means put it out there! People here are all fans of the same genre from different perspectives, but just because some are better at guitar or music theory than others doesn't make their tastes more valid. I find it fun and interesting to hear when people have a totally different take on a song/album than mine. Those discussions are cool.
