I've successfully started a new surf combo in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area! We're playing our first show on the 13th of July at a private party. We are officially called "Group Captain and the Mandrakes." The group consists of:
Art Singer (Group Captain): drums
Aric McKenna (Major Kong): guitar
Stone Quillian (Colonel Batguano): bass
Matt "tha Kat" Lentz (Dr. Strangelove): guitar
We're mostly doing cover tunes to begin with to get our feet wet (pun intended), but adding more and more originals as we move on. I'm pretty excited about it. Funny thing is, all of us are former military (3 of us veterans) and all of us, of course, love Dr. Strangelove.
I would have posted this in the show announcement section, but as it's a private party, that wouldn't do.

Thanks Paul! Hopefully we'll be able to play a show together soon enough! The bass player actually works out at the Pentagon, so maybe a government party-gig? I would hope something that pays well, anyway.

Thank you very much, guys! It's definitely a lot of fun. We're working on a surprise surf-medley that should have people smiling.  It involves 2 songs one would think would belong in surf medley and then one that is just totally off-the-wall.
