I need some help. I have both of these programs. I haven't used either one before. I just want to be able to record my own stuff for personal entertainment. Do any of you have exp. with these to tell me which might be best for me to waste my time with? I need the simplest interface because I'm old and senile with no memory. I'm trying to avoid relearning every time I would start the program. I see that Audacity is mentioned some but I'd rather have more capabilities if I ever progress. Thank you.

I have Ableton experience, and I would love to own the complete Ableton, the really expensive one even on an Academic license. It is an amazing program, but it is not the on you want for uitar. You want Cubase LE, it is just easier.
Audacity... I haven't toyed around with it in a longtime so I don't know its current capabilities, but I would experiment with that if I were you. It is free, it should be the simplest and easier to use.
I've also been an extensive Pro Tools user. I current use and prefer Logic Pro 9.

I've just started learning Live Lite. What Jake says.
