Hi everyone, just got a quick question about achieving a certain sound effect with surf guitar. It's like a whip crack kind of echo thing.
I love playing surf and have done for a few years now, but this effect has always escaped me. It's not uncommon and I'm sure you'll recognize it when you hear it, it's used in tons and tons of stuff. Here's an example (there's one hit at 18s and another at 22s): http://youtu.be/svVvtl48KEU?t=22s
So how in the heck do you make that sound?!? Does it have a name?
Thanks so much for any advice! Cheers.

That's a (((reverb crash))). Kick your reverb tank or shake your amp and you'll hear it.

Note:
You must have real spring reverb.
Whether in a reverb unit, or in the amp.
Not a digital reverb pedal.

Say, the Tequila Worms were doing that all through their entire set Sunday, without being anywhere near their tanks or amps. How'd they do that? Tape loops? Astral projection? Or was Travis hitting that hard?

Like Jeff said. Or a not so solid stage combined with a heavy handed drummer. That's why you'll see bands hanging there reverb unit from something with a bungee cord. Or do like I end up doing because it seems like we never end up on a totally solid stage and that's put it off the stage and run longer cables to it. Kinda sucks because you're pretty much stuck with your settings.......
