See if any one can beat me (I hope so)-

I'm 61; and played my first paid gig in 1968- that's 45 years.

I've never been more excited to play electric guitar then right now.

Give me Fender Reverb or give me Death!

Dusty Twangdude

So you never get too old for surf?

"as he stepped into the stealthy night air... little did he know the fire escape was not there"

I know I will someday be too old to continue; but some of the First Wave Guys are still doing it and that gives me hope.

There are lots of older players involved in our music- if only because some audiences consider it "Oldies".

Dusty Twangdude

twangdude, i'm the same age as you but taught myself to play when i was 47.

ok-- i was 10 in 1961. i'm high side of 61 now. played for money for 51, almost 52 years. i'm certain someone has me beat! can you still hear me??

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

Thank you both-

I don't feel near as alone in my old age as I did just minutes ago.

It's just that we all still look so young...

My bass player has me beat at 63, but I digress.

Dusty Twangdude

our band ages span from 25-drummer, 29-singer/violin, 31-guitar, 43-guitar, 61-guitar, 63-bass player

If you are the Bass Player, you can be old as the hills,

even a bit ugly- and nobody seems to care.

I know- I used to be one.

Dusty Twangdude

Im 60 and I never picked up a guitar until I was 58. I thought about being left handed so I picked it up right handed the first time and never knew the difference.

I'm 64 Picked Guitar When I Was 15 Played Surf Band A Year Later Quit At 19 Started Back 1997 Been At It Ever Since. Former Lead Guitar Beach Party Surfers Bsnd Don

Bravo!

You are now the leader- and gladly I am not.

By the way I love Elko- used to hunt and fish up that way.

Dusty Twangdude

I will be 66 in August. First starting learning "Pipeline" when "The Ventures Surfing" album first came out in the mid 60's. I "played at" playing on and off up until I retired in my late 50's and decided to get serious before time runs out. I started a surf/Ventures band with a neighborhood friend when I turned 60 and am in my my sixth year of gigging in my first ever band.

Don't know why it took so long to figure out how much fun playing in a band can be, but better late than never. I wanted to be in band as a teenager and if someone had told me then that "you'll be in a band someday but you'll be in your sixties when it happens" I'd have laughed my you know what off.

It really is "never too late".

Looks like I am one of the younger kids in this thread. I am only 63. Started playing in 1957.

Later,
Norm

got me beat! all yours norm!!!!

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

Hey this is Kool...... I'm 54 and still diggin' the tunes.
Yep been that "ugly who is that guy"? Bass player. Confused Good fun though.
But nothing beats Mr Stompy the Strat being played thru a cranked reverb tank Shock

Eddie Katcher turns 66 this year. He got his first guitar on January 26, 1963 or 18419 days since. (50.428474 years ago).

One would think he would have learned how to play by now.

Nah, not Katcher. But he does have fun.

He does think Paul Johnson is a bit older. (Just a rumor)

ed

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

WOW!

That puts Rob in the lead with Eddie a likely close second.

Gentlemen I salute you both. Thank you for carrying the torch so long

and faithfully.

Now, do I hear a 67? 67 going once, going twice...

Dusty Twangdude

Great thread! God bless you all, gentlemen and lady! Though not on this forum, my father just turned 70, and we still occasionally play out with our Shadows tribute band the Troubadours (most recently in April). He does very well! Rock'n'roll does keep one young!

You're darned right Ivan.

Playing Rock n' Roll has done that for me too.

When I'm plugged in to a 'verbed-out blackface Super, I'm 16 again.

Dusty Twangdude

This is why I hang around this genre and message board. Since we spend so much time around the punk and indi rock circuits, I am in the unfortunate position of always being the 'old guy' at age 38. Many of you make me feel young. Hahahaha
