When I was a teenager I started to teach myself Pipeline but never learned the whole thing until recently. The first surf song I learned to play in it's entirety is Mr. Moto.

either pipeline or walk don't run. Still 2 of my favorites to play.

...Latinia, Quiet Surf or Splashing With The Mermaid. I learned a whole set of songs at once but these were my fav's when I started-still are.

WALK DON'T RUN 'thout a doubt!

would "Walk Don't Run" be considered a surf song?
I thought it was more of a rock instrumental cover of a jazz song.

yup, IMHO that would be instro and not necessarily surf but then that's opening up that old can o' beans.

The first song I learned was called "Surfin' Psycho". I have no idea who did it. As a very young man (1981?) I was randomly recording music off the local college station and came across this song. It features a great sax lead, and very agressive rhythm guitar work. At a couple points in the song, someone with a lot of echo says "suuuuuurfin' pssssyyyychoooo". It could be latter half 1st wave or in the 2nd wave.

Anyone?

"Pipeline" was the first surf instrumental I learned to play on guitar, and "Inertia!" was the first surf bass line that I learned.

At one point, over the past 15 years of noodling around and picking out various tunes (often finding them via jam sessions), I had a long fit of goofiness (no better way to say it) where I'd start the intro to "Walk Don't Run" but somehow end up playing "Pipeline" whenever I switched to the single note playing. It was sometime this year that I FINALLY managed to break myself of that. Embarassed

I learned the Agent Orange version of Pipeline.
I was a little skater punk back then.

that version was on the Agent Orange EP "Bitchen Summer"...and was like 14 minutes long!

I had an old beat-up showman and a Gibsom Marauder guitar...I used to love to play Agent Orange's crunchy distorted version of Pipeline...

I never heard the "Bitchen Summer" ep. Would love to hear this version. I am trying to get my band to incroporate our set list this version of Pipeline with a little bit of zombie flare added to it.
