Permalink What Fuzz pedal do you recommend?

Jobeast, yeah, it isn't inexpensive. But it is hand-build by Ed Sanner himself. That's essentially why I wanted one. That, and I wanted an absolutely authentic vintage fuzz sound and I think that's exactly what I got.

Crispy played it at the Summit, but I'll let him tell you what he thinks. I'll have the opportunity soon to hear it played by a real Mosrite guitar into a vintage Fender amp. That ought to be something to hear.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

I really thought long and hard about getting the new Sanner, but the price was just too high for me. I feel I can get close to Mosrite type sounds without having to break the bank. In the end, I wanted it because of of the Sanner factor and not the tone factor. Ha.

The really good news is that after the limited run of signed and custom-painted pedals are sold-out, a lower-priced version will be introduced. Not hand-signed by Ed or anything, but the same sound.

I think the Zvex Mastotron does a better job at nailing the vintage fuzz tones than some of the clones, and there are so many options you can really dial in a wide variety of nasty fuzzes.

Cool

If you can't buy that 1968 Fuzzrite, you can always call Bob Shade of Hallmark Guitars and buy one of Ed Sanner's brand new NU-FUZZ pedals. Someday I'd like to hear a side-by-side comparison between it and Ed's original Fuzzrite, but Ed builds these new ones to exactly recreate the sound of his originals. Mine sounds nasty terrific in any case.

I found you a video of a comparison.

PS - I ordered a Hallmark / Sanner Nu Fuzz this morning. I decided the Sanner factor was just too cool to pass up.

Congratulations, Michael!

I saw that comparison. I didn't share it because I don't think it does justice to how "present" the pedal actually sounds in person. I believe you'll be surprised by how dynamic and full the fuzz really is, and how many more over and undertones it really produces compared to how compressed it sounds here.

Did you tell Bob I said "Hi"?

Bob just emailed that he'd get one in the mail today. I made sure to tell him you just said hi when I sent my thanks! Ha. Big Grin

Thanks! What color did you get?

I told him that the Green and then the Orange were my first choices. I suppose that is the Irish in me. You? Also, this makes at least two Hallmark/Sanners in PA. We are a hip state.

Mine is Gold. Where in PA are you?

The gold looks killer as well. They all look pretty swift though. I am really looking forward to giving it a whirl with my very limited technique! Ha.

Philadelphia - but much closer to Bucks County than Center City. Its kinda like the suburbs but with all the fun of big city property taxes! Wink

So, Lower Bucks? That makes you a shortish drive from me. I think you might want to consider coming to the East Coast Ventures Fan Fest this October near the Philadelphia Airport. About a hundred of us get together and play, or just listen to everyone else. This will be my third year and I'm finally gonna play. Bob Spalding has family in the area and he comes up from Texas for the whole thing. He happily plays pretty much all day with anyone who asks him to join in. The best part is the Wipe Out finale with EVERYONE playing. You gotta hear that!

PM me if you want to get together and/or come to the Fan Fest.

That sounds awesome! I am totally interested in hearing some Ventures fans tearing it up. I don't know if I am up to the challenge myself, but maybe someday.

I'll send you a PM with my contact info later today, but my band-mate just showed up to rehearse and I gotta go. If you read my early posts here, you'll realize how extraordinary that sentence is.

Bob says, "Hey to Noel!"
And - I have a Green one on the way!

Here's another Fuzzrite going for cheap. It's only at $152 right now. This one's a germanium version too!

There's only 2 days left and 2 bids on it, someone will get it at a good price. The last one I saw (posted a couple of pages back ended up going for less than $200!) I'm so tempted!

If anyone is looking for a FUZZrite clone for fairly cheap, check this out. I just got one yesterday, paid $75 for it. Sounds fantastic and the boost circuit gives mucho volume on tap. It's extremely well made with superb components.

Where can you get the NU FUZZ from? I've looked on the Hallmark Guitars website but can't find it.

I just received mine today (but I'm at work until 5)!

Just email Bob at Hallmark directly and he will tell you the Paypal address and ask you to pick your color.
