That is great, Jeff! I love the version of Exotic they did on Reverb Explosion, in fact the entire album just kicked ass! Very envious!

Oh wow! That's awesome news! Like Mike I was totally floored by their Reverb Explosion album, and their cover of Exotic in particular. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I always thought they were saying "EEEEEeeeex-ot.."(guitar interrupts 'ic'), at least in the Original Surfaris one, but I realize how nitpicky that sounds. — |

No problem. Nits are the spice of life. It's not easy to tell, but I still tend to think I'm right. The Original Surfaris shout something like this in a couple of different songs. For example, also in Tor-Chula. Sort of a trademark variant on "Yee-haw!" With apologies to Marda if I'm involving her in one of my cheesy errors, her handle is what clued me in initially, since I don't have a clue on surfer lingo. The El Caminos version sounds a bit odd, like maybe they weren't quite sure what it was either, and who can blame them? Before I realized what their model was I thought they were saying "Downsized!" or "Downside!" or maybe something in Japanese. I think maybe the same call is in the Dave Myers version, but I don't happen to have that handy to check my memory. I take it to be some sort of ritual call on the order of "Everybody up!" |

Do you guys really not know? "Outside - the area outside of the lineup or break line where surfers in the lineup initially observe sets of waves as they approach. Often a term used to warn other surfers in the lineup that a new set of waves is approaching. "Outside!" Same as "out-the-back" (often used by Australian surfers.)" Exactly. Well stated. And, along with my ears, this is what makes me think I'm right here. But, of course, I didn't know the phrase until fairly recently, like five or six years ago, due to connections on this list. Not that much surfing going on in Denver. Here it usually means, "Let's fight!" Like the strangely affectionate sounding "(I) Choose ya!" of my youth. Last edited: May 09, 2013 22:01:20 |

I remember when I recorded it. I bought air plane ticket and can't wait for August. By the way I got IMPACT31, it was Barbie cover version on Kenny aAnd The Cadets. The Alley cats did it. |

That's it! I couldn't figure it out to save myself. And very appropriate for something modeled on a Hilder recording, what with his "soul" fixation.
The Original Surfaris version is very close to that, but I think that only become available with Lost Legends Of Surf Guitar 1 - Big Noise From Waimea! And I only got to hear the Dave Myers version long after that! So I tend to think of the version as the "OS version." I always wondered about the lineage and chronology of the El Camino version. Versions of Exotic all have their own distinctive finger prints, and you can usually tell what version a cover comes from, even if it's been altered to some extent.
I'm really looking forward to seeing you play, Eddie! I think there may be a few others ... It's nice to have so many folks this year from the Pacific rim.

Great! This year will be my first SG101 Convention & also my first time in California. I'm really excited about this trip. Looking forward to meet all the SG Gang in person & make new friends. I'll check the calendar to catch all the surrounding shows I can from August, 4th to 11th. Is anyone willing to share your 'surf show itinerary'? —When you have to shoot ... shoot! Don't talk. |
