Hi, I am revisiting my 'gilded Teisco' project guitar which I began some years back but shelved when I got discouraged as the complicated 5-way rotary switch assembly I installed didn't work. I actually plan on gilding this axe and antiquing it with lacquer in the traditional method of picture frame gilding.
But electronically I am back to square one. The SD HB I installed is up for sale and I want a nice twangy sound from the single pickup (no further routing of the already thin and flimsy plywood body would be prudent). Does anyone have a suggestion as to a good pickup that will compliment the natural resonance (such as it is) of a plywood Teisco Tulip with a heavy coating of clay+hide glue bole, gold leaf and heavy lacquer? I am also looking for a bridge/tailpiece assembly that would yeild a good twang. Thanks!

I'd try to find a Teisco Square pole pickup for it but that would require some more slight routing and mounting ring creation SO,
How about a GFS Surf 90 ( fits in a humbucker rout) and one of these bridges with steel saddles.

That makes sense to use the original part. It's a different axe though – nime is the ET200, which EVH supposedly used pre-Charvel. I got the body for free, paid $25 for the propeller-wood neck, and made a Prince-y red pickguard with real gold leaf backing (looks real swank in bright light). The otherwise ritzy-looking guitar is only marred by the awkward blister-nacelle of lucite coated inside in goldleaf, sitting next to the jack to house my disappointing 5-way rotary switch (@ 2" an entire inch too tall for the body cavity housing. I am thinking the GFS Surf90 will be a cheap way to go with minimal fuss. Only what to put into the nacelle? A fuzz box?

GFS sells an improved version of the same axe's vibrato tailpiece.

Oh hell yes to the vibrato.
A Teisco without a vibrato is.....well, still pretty bad ass, I've got some but I'd put the bar back on.

I got the reissue vibrato tailpiece on eBay but my tech had to customize it because the thing still wouldn't stay in tune, so he put a small bike chain link on the end on the tremolo so it would return to its original place and stay in tune. Otherwise they are a nightmare to use the vibrato and keep tune. Also the pickups sounded terrible to me, couldn't find any use for the guitar, if I still had it I'd try new pickups because the neck played great and was a cool looking guitar. I had the 2 pickup tulip.

Yeah, the ET200 has a nice slim neck with fast action. I can't believe I let this project languish because of my inability to handle a gilder's tip. Another testament to my inability to finish technical projects. I'm gonna go with the GFS Surf90 unless someone can sell me something better for near the price. What do M3 pickups sell for anyhow? Those RH100s that Danny demo'ed are sweet.
