Picked up off eBay for under $250. 1958, twin 6L6, twin tube rectifier, 33 watts. Will be having my guy who rebuilt my Showman rebuild this for a fun guitar amp. Before pictures when it arrives here later this week and then after pictures after my guy is done...

Funky! Looks like an old PA head

Yep, old PA head. We used the 100 watt model for pa in the 60's with a transistorized 4 channel hi-z mic mixer. For PA it did pretty well. I built two 4-12 columns and a box for the head. We covered it all in Gibson tolex and put Gibson name plates on them. Fooled a lot of people with that rig.

For guitar........yuck. The mic input impedances are wrong for quitar and the EQ curve was from Mars.

Interesting piece of vintage gear though. They had a transistor version of that out a bit later.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

I've heard people use those after they are mod'ed for guitar. They sound great and have a Tweed Deluxe vibe.

Just arrived today from eBay - 6L6GB x 2, mine is the single 5U4GB rectifier, 33 watts. may turn the Phono control into a master volume.

More to come! If someone has the schematic for the later model here that has the 1 5U4GB rectifier instead of the 2x 5Y3GT, that would be great. I've been combing through google (and Bogen) and can only find the earlier 2 rectifier model. Agree that there will need to be some modding to make this work for guitar, but have heard some good examples on YouTube. Tweed Deluxe would be a nice sound and would go well with some clean BF Fenders...!

I recently sold my no-name modded monoblok 2x6V6 head and school PA cab with old 220-code no-marque jensen 12" ceramic for way cheap. A fun little amp, not much for sparkle but good for darker and overdriven sounds. I always miss a piece of gear when it's sold but it makes me glad to think I might hear some good music being played out of it that I didn't make.
I see Traynor makes a 15W head like that now, with big trannies. Must sound good, made in Canada and all.

Squink Out!

Just hooked it up today to a Carvin combo amp speaker (in case it let out the magic smoke). Sounds great, and the tube rectifier sag is great. Will bring in my Tremolux cab tomorrow to hear it through that...

I have a couple of these Bogen amps. With a few minor mods they can sound great for guitar.
