so.......i'm in this cover band and i want to somehow, some way incorporate 'surf' into some of our tunes when it is my turn to 'solo'. one tune that comes to mind is 'little wing'. i don't want to noodle over it in E pentatonic (guilty, guilty, guilty) nor do i want to memorize jimi's solo. any ideas? does anyone here do this? am i making any sense or is this just a silly idea? so many surf tunes have such cool melodies that it seems a waste not to use them somewhere else.

Jimmy's solo isn't much of a solo to me. It is like taking an instrumental song and calling that song a solo. Jimmy's part is a pretty gorgeous melody. I would suggest memorizing the melody his solo but playing it like a surf band would play it.
But for other songs, sure! Several surf bands have done this with non-surf songs and it is pretty rad.

I'm interested as well.. I've got a position soon in a worship band, where I hope to use LOADS of reverb.
And since surf, solo classical and technical metal are the only styles I've ever played, it should get interesting. I hope I can sit in the mix well without standing out too much.
— IMO.
