The span on here ranges from hobbiest to professional. But 'professional' might mean something different when it pertains to this genre.
We consider ourselves professionals, but that doesn't mean we have been able or will ever be able to quit our day jobs.

We play a couple times a month. Nothing thats enough to make any real money. There should be an EP from us soonish (we hope). Its all recorded just not mixed. Its a weird story.

Aspiring professional here! I however learn and operate at a pace usually reserved for sloths.
My bandcamp site has two released eps.

Half our band is kind of retired (read; moved on to other things other than pro musicians) and the other half is still pro, make their living off their playing but NOT with our band, LOL!!

Yeah, haven't been able to quit the day jobs yet. Tour occasionally and play around NYC a few times a month. This site is a gold mine for finding other awesome surf musicians and shows.

Three out of four of us run own businesses, only one still working for a boss. We record/work but a bit less as winter approaches (Australia).

The Really Rottens remind me a lot of the band Famous Monsters that Sean went on to found after the end of White Zombie. That is some good trash/surf.

check and check. Going into the studio with my cover band to help a guy out who is graduating from the Seattle Art Institute and his final project is to record a working band. Free studio time! I have a hobby/pro studio at home as does another band member and we are just getting into the groove of making pro-sounding recordings.
Looking forward to being in a more professional studio setting at the Art Institute. The bad news is that I will then know all the equipment I need that I can't afford.

We're a local/regional band, we play a lot, have recorded one local CD that included covers, and have a new, all-original CD just about finished. We are all happily retired guys who don't act our age, and who have no desire or interest in trying to make mortgage payments with the band income - it's all just gravy, and we feel very lucky.

Interesting question. I'm "Rich", a 66 year old, retired, business guy. Set up in South Florida each winter with my old Fender Strat and, now using Garageband and an IPad to record. Through this site, I was recently blessed with a volunteer drummer who is a professional but on occasion adds badly needed drum tracks to my music. My weak claim to fame is that, while in college in the mid-60's, fell in love with Surf music and did some brief time with Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys. Many will tell you BB's didn't do real Surf Music, but that's only partly true. Carl was a damned good Surf guitarist and I learned a lot from just being close. Listen to their Miserlou. I currently have >110 songs up on my youtube channel, though most are not surf.. but some are! youtube.com/user/webster1251 It's a great hobby for me. Rich

Use to do the non-stop practice, tour/gig, record thing. Was able to have it be self-sustaining fiscally. Never spent a dime outside of our initial investment to buy t-shirts. Had a practice studio downtown, did the records right.
We are just practicing right now. I'm writing, we are not actively being ambitious. Just waiting and seeing what happens.

Too bad we can't have an annual surf music type get together with pick-up "band" entertainment. Like a surf music reunion.

I thought they did that at the convention each year.

Thanks for the compliments killbabykill34! I wish I could tell you our sound is well planned, but what your hearing is all our bad influences put into a blender and spit out through a reverb tank.
